Why is this newly created MVC application throwing this error? - c#

All I did was make a new MVC project in Visual Studio called Fadi's Project. I didn't touch any code but it threw this error when I ran the application. I tried debugging but no breakpoints where being hit. I tried to find a solution to my specific problem and while there are many like it none of the other fixes where the same.

I think it is the apostrophe in your website name. Take that out and try again.

as it is saying in the error itself: The given assembly name or codebase was invalid. Change that name and try again

The issue was due to an incorrect bindingRedirect:
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity name="System.Diagnostics.Tracing" publicKeyToken="B03F5F7F11D50A3A" culture="neutral" />
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="0.0.0.0-4.2.0.0" newVersion="4.2.0.0" />

Removing the "bindingDirect" completely solved the issue.

Looked at reference to stdole and it was to the GAC and to a Version: 2.0.0.0
The bitness of nothing has changed.
Where on earth has this error come from?
Just in case anyone else encounters the issue the same way I did...
This is how I resolved the issue:
Deleted the existing reference to stdole, then added a reference > extensions > there were four entries for stdole! one with the office icon, one with the VS icon, one with a cog (setup icon) and another with no icon (all four were exactly the same version numbers etc)...
Added a reference to the one with VS icon and deployed to server...
all going well (touch wood)
There is now a Nuget package which provides stdole.dll:
https://www.nuget.org/packages/stdole
So today this may be the most reliable way of including it in your project, if you don't want to assume it is in the GAC or if you need a specific version. There are versions going from 17.0.0 (preview) all the way back to 7.0.3300, although not contiguously. (Not sure if they jumped version numbers or if some are actually missing?)
Add a reference in your project to 'stdole.dll', which can be found in a couple of different places
Your GAC (C:\Windows\assembly)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSEnv\PublicAssemblies
Rebuild, redeploy and all should be good.
You might want to explore why the stdole library (or one of its dependencies) has been tampered.
In the meantime, run the command sn -Vr * in a command prompt to disable the integrity check on your local machine.

I have also tried changing the Enable 32-bit Applications in the IIS Application Pools to True but the System.BadImageFormatException error still persist. Greatly appreciated for any suggestions to solve this error.
BadImageFormatException usually means architecture conflits.. Like trying to install a 32 bit assembly with a x64 install util for example.
Also in the pre-bind state information you can read this line:
WRN: A partial bind occurs when only part of the assembly display name
is provided.
WRN: This might result in the binder loading an incorrect assembly.
Which might indicate that you are not using a fully qualified name to load an assembly but just the type. Try specifying the fully qualified name of the assembly you are trying to load.

System.BadImageFormatException - Invalid Token when updating DLL to newest version?

I've had this project running for a couple of months using a couple of company-specific DLL's. I just downloaded and updated to the newest version and I am now receiving this error. Has anyone encountered this error in a similar setting / any debugging advice?
This could be a 32bit / 64bit issue. You could try targeting a particular platform with your compiles and see if this fixes your issues.
