I am making program for representation of network graph. I have here many attributes for connection between two nodes. Actually I am trying make a combobox with types of dashes like in MS Word. My code of ComboBox:
<ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Dashes}">
<ComboBox.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<Canvas >
<Line X1="0" Y1="0" X2="100" Y2="100" StrokeDashArray="{Binding Dash}"/>
</Canvas>
</DataTemplate>
</ComboBox.ItemTemplate>
</ComboBox>
Code behind:
private DoubleCollection _dash;
private List<DoubleCollection> _listOfDashes;
public DoubleCollection Dash
{
get { return _dash; }
set
{
_dash = value;
OnPropertyChanged("Dash");
}
}
public List<DoubleCollection> Dashes
{
get { return _listOfDashes; }
set
{
_listOfDashes = value;
OnPropertyChanged("Dashes");
}
}
After launch the program the ComboBox isn't empty (there is two selectable object) but items are empty. Where I am making a mistake?
You are binding the ItemsSource property to your ViewModel Dashes property. It means that every ItemTemplate can be bound on each element of the Dashes collection (i.e. a DoubleCollection).
Try to change your XAML in this way:
<ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Dashes}">
<ComboBox.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<Line X1="0" Y1="0" X2="100" Y2="0" StrokeDashArray="{Binding}" Stroke="Black" Margin="6" />
</DataTemplate>
</ComboBox.ItemTemplate>
</ComboBox>
It means that each Line has its StrokeDashArray binded to each DoubleCollection that belongs to Dashes collection. So in this way:
vm = new ViewModel();
vm.Dashes = new List<DoubleCollection>();
vm.Dashes.Add(new DoubleCollection());
vm.Dashes[0].Add(2);
vm.Dashes[0].Add(3);
vm.Dashes.Add(new DoubleCollection());
vm.Dashes[1].Add(1);
vm.Dashes[1].Add(4);
you will see two different lines in your ComboBox. I hope it can help you.

I'm trying to create an edit form for editing properties of a custom set of TV Series objects. One of the properties holds a collection of all owned media formats (DVD, Blu-ray, etc) for that particular series that will be displayed in a ComboBox. Items are added to the ComboBox via a separate popup window and items are to be removed from the ComboBox by selecting the item and clicking a remove Button.
I can add new entries to the MediaOwned ComboBox just fine, but when I try to select a specific ComboBox item to test the remove Button I find that I can only ever select the first entry. Can someone please tell me if I've missed something embarrassingly obvious, thanks.
Here is the problematic property:
private ObservableCollection<string> _mediaOwned = new ObservableCollection<string>();
public ObservableCollection<string> MediaOwned
{
get { return _mediaOwned; }
set
{
_mediaOwned = value;
OnPropertyChanged(new PropertyChangedEventArgs("MediaOwned"));
}
}
Here are the other relevant code behind:
private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
// Create binding for the ListBox.
Binding listBinding = new Binding();
listBinding.Source = show.Series;
listBinding.Mode = BindingMode.OneWay;
listBinding.UpdateSourceTrigger = UpdateSourceTrigger.PropertyChanged;
lbSeries.SetBinding(ListBox.ItemsSourceProperty, listBinding);
// Create binding for the ComboBox.
Binding myBinding = new Binding();
myBinding.Path = new PropertyPath("MediaOwned");
myBinding.Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay;
myBinding.UpdateSourceTrigger = UpdateSourceTrigger.PropertyChanged;
cbMediaOwned.SetBinding(ComboBox.ItemsSourceProperty, myBinding);
}
private void btnRemoveMedia_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
Series series = (Series)lbSeries.SelectedItem;
series.MediaOwned.Remove(cbMediaOwned.Text);
}
And here is the XAML code:
<Border Style="{StaticResource PanelBorderStyle}" DockPanel.Dock="Left" Margin="0,8,8,0"
DataContext="{Binding ElementName=lbLists, Path=SelectedItem}">
<DockPanel VerticalAlignment="Top">
<StackPanel>
<ListBox x:Name="lbSeries" Style="{StaticResource BasicListStyle}" Width="180" Height="300"
DisplayMemberPath="Title" SelectionMode="Single" LayoutUpdated="lbSeries_LayoutUpdated">
</ListBox>
</StackPanel>
<StackPanel x:Name="editPanel" DataContext="{Binding ElementName=lbSeries, Path=SelectedItem}">
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Margin="0, 4, 0, 0">
<TextBlock Style="{StaticResource SmallFont}" Width="100">Title</TextBlock>
<TextBox x:Name="txtTitle" Style="{StaticResource TextBoxStyle}" Text="{Binding Path=Title, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" Width="200" Margin="8, 8, 16, 8"></TextBox>
</StackPanel>
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top">
<TextBlock Style="{StaticResource SmallFont}" Width="100">Media owned</TextBlock>
<ComboBox x:Name="cbMediaOwned" Style="{StaticResource ComboBoxStyle}" Width="150" Margin="8,8,6,8"
></ComboBox>
<Button x:Name="btnAddMedia" Style="{StaticResource ToolbarButtonStyle}" Click="btnAddMedia_Click" Margin="0">
<StackPanel ToolTip="Add media">
<Image Source="Images/add.png" />
</StackPanel>
</Button>
<Button x:Name="btnRemoveMedia" Style="{StaticResource ToolbarButtonStyle}" Click="btnRemoveMedia_Click" Margin="4">
<StackPanel ToolTip="Remove media">
<Image Source="Images/remove.png" />
</StackPanel>
</Button>
</StackPanel>
</StackPanel>
</DockPanel>
</Border>
Alternatively I can also remove the binding code in the code behind and replace the ComboBox with the below code (but I still get the same problem - I can't select anything in the ComboBox):
<ComboBox x:Name="cbMediaOwned" Style="{StaticResource ComboBoxStyle}" Width="150" Margin="8,8,6,8" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=lbSeries, Path=SelectedItem.MediaOwned, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"
SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedMedia, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"></ComboBox>
SelectedMedia property:
private string _selectedMedia = "";
public string SelectedMedia
{
get { return _selectedMedia; }
set
{
_selectedMedia = value;
OnPropertyChanged(new PropertyChangedEventArgs("SelectedMedia"));
}
}
Here is my xaml:
<ComboBox x:Name="Models_ComboBox"
Width="110"
Text="Model"
ItemsSource="{Binding Models}"
SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedModel}"
DisplayMemberPath="Model"
MouseDoubleClick="Models_ComboBox_MouseDoubleClick"
SelectionChanged="Models_ComboBox_SelectionChanged"/>
Here are my VM properties:
private DataTable models;
public DataTable Models
{
get { return models; }
set
{
if (models != value)
{
models = value;
OnPropertyChanged(nameof(Models));
}
}
}
and
private DataRowView selectedModel;
public DataRowView SelectedModel
{
get { return selectedModel; }
set
{
if (selectedModel != value)
{
selectedModel = value;
if (value != null)
{
InitializeOptions(value["Model"].ToString());
}
OnPropertyChanged(nameof(SelectedModel));
}
}
}
As you can see, the ItemsSource and the SelectedItem of the ComboBox are bound to two different properties in the ViewModel. The ItemsSource is bound to a DataTable populated from a Database. Once the user selects a Model, then there are other option ComboBoxes that are populated based on that selection.
Fixed the problem myself. I had a line of code that was automatically setting the SelectedIndex of the ComboBox without me realizing.
I've got about 20 of the following underneath a ComboBox (which means that I can't use any x:Name parameter due to duplicate naming):
<ComboBoxItem>
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<Image Source="folder/someimage.png" Height="20" Width="20"/>
<TextBlock Text="SampleText" Margin="5,0,0,0"/>
</StackPanel>
</ComboBoxItem>
How can I access the string from the TextBlock inside the SelcetionChanged event?
Currently when I choose the item normally, the selected text (of my ComboBox) is set to
System.Windows.Controls.ComboBoxItem
This is the return value from the ComboBoxItem.ToString() method!
How can I change the return type of my xaml based ComboBoxItem?
After long research I've found a solution. I've created a new UserControl and then added it as item of my ComboBox.
MyComboBoxItem.xaml:
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<Image x:Name="img" Source="{Binding Image, ElementName=myComboBoxItem}" Height="18" Width="18"/>
<TextBlock x:Name="txt" Text="{Binding Text, ElementName=myComboBoxItem}" Margin="5,0,0,0"/>
</StackPanel>
MyComboBoxItem.xaml.cs:
public string Text
{
get { return txt.Text; }
set { txt.Text = value; }
}
public override string ToString()
{
return Text;
}
MainWindow.xaml:
<ComboBox>
<local:MyComboBoxItem Image="image1.png" Text="Item1"/>
<local:MyComboBoxItem Image="image2.png" Text="Item2"/>
<local:MyComboBoxItem Image="image3.png" Text="Item3"/>
</ComboBox>
Now it works like a charm and does exactly what I've wanted.
I have a listBox1 in which data are binding from the list. Then I want to when I select any item from listBox1 in listBox2 will binding data from another list.
private void listBox1_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e)
{
Teams teams = (Teams)listBox1.SelectedItems[0];
getH2hResults("//td[#class='hell']", teams.Team1, teams.Team2); // add elements to list
getH2hResults("//td[#class='dunkel']", teams.Team1, teams.Team2); // and here also
listBox2.ItemsSource = lists.h2hList;
}
On the first time this work, but for the twice time listBox2 doesn't displays new data.
public class Lists : BindableBase
{
public Lists()
{
_teamsList = new List<Teams>();
_h2hList = new List<H2H>();
}
private List<Teams> _teamsList;
public List<Teams> teamsList
{
get
{
return _teamsList;
}
set
{
if (value != _teamsList)
{
_teamsList = value;
RaisePropertyChanged("teamsList");
}
}
}
private List<H2H> _h2hList;
public List<H2H> h2hList
{
get
{
return _h2hList;
}
set
{
if (value != _h2hList)
{
_h2hList = value;
RaisePropertyChanged("h2hList");
}
}
}
}
And XAML
<ListBox Name="listBox1" Width="300" Height="300"
VerticalAlignment="Top"
HorizontalAlignment="Left"
ItemsSource="{Binding teamsList}" SelectionChanged="listBox1_SelectionChanged">
<ListBox.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Foreground="#FF4273CD" Text="{Binding Team1, Mode=TwoWay}"></TextBlock>
<TextBlock Text=" vs " FontWeight="Bold"></TextBlock>
<TextBlock Foreground="#FF4273CD" Text="{Binding Team2, Mode=TwoWay}"></TextBlock>
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
</ListBox.ItemTemplate>
</ListBox>
<ListBox Name="listBox2" Grid.Column="1" Width="300" Height="300"
VerticalAlignment="Top"
HorizontalAlignment="Left"
ItemsSource="{Binding h2hList}" >
<ListBox.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<StackPanel Orientation="Vertical">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding date, Mode=TwoWay}"></TextBlock>
<TextBlock Text="{Binding result, Mode=TwoWay}"></TextBlock>
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
</ListBox.ItemTemplate>
</ListBox>
RaisePropertyChanged("teamList");
is Wrong your propery is named 'teamsList' with an S,
change to:
RaisePropertyChanged("teamsList");
It is the public property you bind to and notify changes of,
edit:
also change your binding:
ItemsSource="{Binding teamList}"
to
ItemsSource="{Binding teamsList}"
Edit 2:
listBox2.DataContext = xxx
Not itemsource = xxx
With the line (in listBox1_SelectionChanged)
listBox2.ItemsSource = lists.h2hList;
you are effectively removing the binding from the ItemsSource property of listBox2.
Instead, you should only update the h2hList property in your Lists class (which presumably happens in getH2hResults) and remove the above line from your code.
Note however that it is not sufficient to clear and re-fill that list. You need to set the h2hList property in order to get a property change notification raised:
var newList = new List<H2H>();
// fill newList before assigning to h2hList property
lists.h2hList = newList;
If you want to keep the list and just change its elements, you would need to use ObservableCollection<H2H> instead of List<H2H> as collection type. This would be the better approach anyway, as you would not have to care for when exactly you add elements to a newly created collection.
I cannot find any examples to make me understand how and if I can change the databind in c# at the click of a button on, in my case a toggleswitch, Basically I have 32 buttons in my app and those 32 buttons act the same but need different text with-in them depending on some toggle switches they are currently databinded so the text can be saved and retrieved from local storage but what values it gets depends on the state of these toggle switches.
So I currently have :
<Button x:Name="_ovButton1" Content="{Binding Source={StaticResource AppSettings}, Path=ovName1_1Value, Mode=TwoWay}" Margin="2,0,250,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" FontSize="14" Height="72" FontWeight="Bold" MouseLeftButtonUp="_ovButton1_MouseLeftButtonUp" MouseLeftButtonDown="_ovButton1_MouseLeftButtonDown" ClickMode="Hover" Hold="_ovButton1_Hold"/>
and I want when a user changes the state of a toggleswitch to change the
{StaticResource AppSettings}, Path=ovName1_1Value, Mode=TwoWay}
to for example:
{StaticResource AppSettings}, Path=ovName1_2Value, Mode=TwoWay}
but I cannot find any example that shows how to do that in c#
what code do I need to do that?
You can specify the target of databinding in code like this:
MyData myDataObject = new MyData(DateTime.Now);
Binding myBinding = new Binding("MyDataProperty");
myBinding.Source = myDataObject;
myText.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, myBinding);

-- Edit Note I don't have access to a WP8 Emulator to test this ---
In the view model it looks like this:
public List<string> Members
{
get { return _Members; }
set { _Members = value; OnPropertyChanged(); }
}
public MainVM()
{
// Simulate Asychronous access, such as to a db.
Task.Run(() =>
{
Thread.Sleep(2000);
Members = new List<string>() {"Alpha", "Beta", "Gamma", "Omega"};
});
}
The code behind on the main page sets the datacontext (shared with all the child controls) as such:
public MainWindow()
{
InitializeComponent();
// Set the windows data context so all controls can have it.
DataContext = new MainVM();
}
The Mainpage Xaml to bind to members is like this
<Button Height="30"
Width="80"
Margin="10"
DataContext="{Binding Members}"
Content="{Binding Path=[0] }" />
<Button Height="30"
Width="80"
Margin="10"
DataContext="{Binding Members}"
Content="{Binding Path=[1] }" />
<Button Height="30"
Width="80"
Margin="10"
DataContext="{Binding Members}"
Content="{Binding Path=[2] }" />
<Button Height="30"
Width="80"
Margin="10"
DataContext="{Binding Members}"
Content="{Binding Path=[3] }" />
The result is this visually:
I based this on my blog article Xaml: ViewModel Main Page Instantiation and Loading Strategy for Easier Binding for more info and a fuller example.
I think your best bet is going to be to use a collection of strings and bind to that collection. You can either change the collection when a toggle is switched, or keep 6 collections and bind to the collection that is for the toggle.
Xaml:
<ItemsControl x:Name="Buttons" ItemsSource="{Binding ButtonTextCollection}">
<ItemsControl.ItemsPanel>
<toolkit:WrapPanel/>
</ItemsControl.ItemsPanel>
<ItemsControl.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<Button Width="100" Height="70" Content="{Binding}" Click="OnButtonClick"/>
</DataTemplate>
</ItemsControl.ItemTemplate>
</ItemsControl>
Your code-behind would have the event handler for your button click
private void OnButtonClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
var text = ((Button) sender).Content.ToString();
// Send the text
}
Your ViewModel would hold the ButtonTextCollection property and would change based on the toggle.
public ICollection<string> ButtonTextCollection
{
get { return _buttonTextCollection; }
set
{
_buttonTextCollection = value;
OnPropertyChanged("ButtonTextCollection");
}
}
When you want to change the text, you would change the ButtonTextCollection
public void ChangeButtonText()
{
ButtonTextCollection = new Collection<string> {"A", "B",...};
}
I am trying to bind a XML page to same underlying code page.
<toolkit:ToggleSwitch Foreground="Transparent" Checked="ToggleSwitch_Checked" IsChecked="{Binding Source={StaticResource appSettings}, Path=LockSetting, Mode=TwoWay}">
<toolkit:ToggleSwitch.ContentTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" DataContext="{Binding}">
<TextBlock Text="locks or unlocks your calender" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextNormalStyle}"/>
<TextBlock x:Name="statusBox" Text="{Binding stat1}" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextTitle3Style}" />
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
</toolkit:ToggleSwitch.ContentTemplate>
I have set the data context as
stat1 = "abn";
InitializeComponent();
aps = this.Resources["appSettings"] as AppSettings;
this.colorpicker.Color = Color.FromArgb(aps.ASetting, aps.RSetting, aps.GSetting, aps.BSetting);
ContentPanel.DataContext = this;
But this is not working at all. Any help will be good.
When you write ContentPanel.DataContext = this it implies in this case that the Code-behind of the XAML would be providing context for the data binding. More specifically, when you write {Binding sta1} in the XAML, sta1 must be a property in the code behind. That is, sta1 should be something like that:
public String sta1 { get; set; }
