I am using an API that returns me the result JSON formatted like this:

The first thing I did was creating a C# object that has 5 properties for each of the JSON's values.
Then I de-serialized the JSON string into an array of this new object.
However I have no idea what back_1s is, and what it will represent in C#,not to mention theresult and the undefined.
I just see no way for me to de-serialize it without help.
This is how I de-serialize in C#
List<NEWOBJECT> gooddata = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<NEWOBJECT>>(jsonstring);

Easiest ist to generate the C# Classes from JSON:

If you deserialize it use the generated RootObject class (or rename the class) that should do the trick.
This will generate two classes for Back1s / Back10s - you can still use only one class (delete the other one) and edit the "Theresult" class corresponding (for example, I renamed Back1s to BackClass and deleted the Back10s class)

You need to make a class which correspond your JSON string
public class Answer
{
public string Status { get; set; }
public List<Domain> Data { get; set; }
}
public class Domain
{
public int Id { get; set; }
public string DomainTitle { get; set; }

Then use
var returnData = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Answer>(successStatus.Data.ToString());
I think that your problem resides in the declaration of Domain class. You should define the below classes, according to the JSON you have posted:
public class Domain
{
public int id { get; set; }
public string domainTitle { get; set; }

public List<Domain> data { get; set; }

var returnData = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Result>(...);
You should replace the ... with the JSON you get from that you call.
Optionally, you could rename the above classes as you think that would be more suitable.

It looks like your JSON string contains an array of objects of the type in question. You are trying to deserialize it into a single instance, hence the error.
Try this:

JSON.Net is expecting (when you pass a collection type to the DeserializeObject method), that the root object is an array. According to your data, it's an object and needs to be processed as a singular user.
And then you need to pass that to the dataSource, so you'd then wrap the deserialized User into var userList = new List<User>{user};
The error message is pretty straightforward. You are trying to deserialize something that isn't an array (your JSON string) into a collection (List<User>). It's not a collection so you can't do that. You should be doing something like JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<RootObject>(json) to get a single object.

The Issue:
I'm receiving the following error message when trying to deserialize on the ImageSet class Category property :

I'm not sure what your raw JSON looks like, but I'd try one of two things:
Use the [JsonArray]attribute (docs) on your ImageSet property.

Consider a different name for your ImageSet property, or the name that it is being serialized to. You've doubled up on the ImageSet name, using it represent the name of the class as well as the property that holds a list of that class.

Your Json string looks to have serialized array object in it because it contains [ ]. It means you have a Json string which is formed after serialization of array object. So you need to deserialized into array object, so try this
var obj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<testclass>>(jsonString);
you have Array of TestClass. so it should be like this.
var model= JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<testclass>>(Name);
why you are using JSonConvert ? in MVC3 you can do like this
