MVC div Bootstrap Collapse Button to Dynamic Data - c#

Working on an MVC WebApp project and would like to have a button be a "manager" but also show dynamic data about the "employees" they manage through a cascading effect using bootstraps collapse data-toggle. So far I have been unsuccessful.
Take a look at my diagram here, to see what I am looking to achieve.
Basically how do I use a button to display dynamic data using div instead of table.
Here is a quick example of what I have started:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
#foreach (var man in Model.Manager)
{ //this loop displays all the Manager names
<div class="col-md-4">
//#*#Html.ActionLink(man.ManagerName, "Index", new { id = man.ManagerID }, new { #class = "btn btn-sm", data_toggle = "collapse", data_target = "#employee" })*# <!-- This is the cshtml that doesnt work. -->
<button type="button" class="btn btn-default" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#employee">#man.ManagerName</button>
<div id="employee" class="collapse">
<div class="row"> //This throws everything off
<div class="col-md-2">
</div>
<div class="col-md-10">
#foreach (var emp in man.Employee)
{
#Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => emp.EmployeeName)
}
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-1">
#Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Edit", new { id = man.ManagerID }, new { #class = "btn btn-default" })
</div>
<div class="col-md-7">
#Html.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id = man.ManagerID }, new { #class = "btn btn-default" })
</div>
}
</div>
</div>
Thanks a bunch!

This post explains how to fix the alignment problem and problem with the collapse. Every row will be class = collapse and will collapse/expand only first row. Everything works.
<div class="container">
#{int i = 0;}
#*<div class="row">*#
#foreach (var man in Model.Manager)
{ //this loop displays all the Manager names
//MOVING This in here fixes your problem with alignment
<div class="row">
#{i++;}
<div class="col-md-4">
//#*#Html.ActionLink(man.ManagerName, "Index", new { id = man.ManagerID }, new { #class = "btn btn-sm", data_toggle = "collapse", data_target = "##i" })*# <!-- This is the cshtml that doesnt work. -->
<button type="button" class="btn btn-default" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="##i">#man.ManagerName</button>
<div id="#i" class="collapse">
<div class="row">

Model built in foreach loop is null when passed to controller

I am having an issue capturing the model when it's passed from the view to the controller.
Basically, every Question has a set of QuestionResponse (think of it as the list of offered responses for a certain question in a dropdown). ClinicalSummaryAnswer is the structure capturing one response per question, for a given user. So a user ends up with a collection of ClinicalSummaryAnswer, where every element is an answer to the respone.
When I submit the form below, all the elements in the model ClinicalSummaryView (ClinicalSummaryAnswer, Questions, QuestionResponse) are null from the controller side. Any ideas why this could happening? I suspect it may be due to the foreach? I am not sure. Please help!!
My View
#model TissueBankApp.Models.View.ClinicalSummaryView
<div>
#using (Html.BeginForm("Create", "ClinicalSummary", FormMethod.Post, new { #class = "form-horizontal" }))
{
<div class="form-group">
<input type="hidden" asp-for="Person.PersonId" value="Person.PersonId" />
<input type="submit" value="Create" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm" />
<a asp-action="Details" asp-controller="Person" asp-route-id="Person.PersonId" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm">Cancel</a>
</div>
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="form-row">
<b> #Html.DisplayFor(model => model.ClinicalSummary.Description) </b>
</div>
#foreach (var question in Model.Questions) //For every question, generate question, and generate responses
{
<div class="form-row">
<label class="control-label col-md-4">#question.QuestionText</label>
#if (question.QuestionResponse.Count() != 0) //If count ViewData[QID] != 0, generate select dropdown, otherwise, input.
{
#Html.DropDownListFor(n => n.ClinicalSummaryAnswer.FirstOrDefault(m => m.QuestionId == question.QuestionId).AnswerId, new SelectList(question.QuestionResponse, "ResponseId", "ResponseText"), "", new { #class = "form-control col-md-4" })
}
else
{
#Html.TextBoxFor(n => n.ClinicalSummaryAnswer.FirstOrDefault(m => m.QuestionId == question.QuestionId).OtherText, new { placeholder = "", #class = "form-control col-md-4", #type = "date" });
}
</div>
}
</div>
}
</div>
Controller
[HttpPost]
[ValidateAntiForgeryToken]
public async Task<IActionResult> Create(ClinicalSummaryView viewModel, string[] AnswerId, string[] OtherText)
{
//STUFF
//Ignore the OtherText, and AnswerId. I was testing to see if these are passed from view to controller and they are indeed. I just have no way of identifying which answer belongs to which question.
}
Firsly,you need know that for each property of the complex type, model binding looks through the sources for the name pattern prefix.property_name. If nothing is found, it looks for just property_name without the prefix.Your backend wants to receive ClinicalSummaryView.ClinicalSummaryAnswer which is a list model. so what you pass should be ClinicalSummaryAnswer[index].PropertyName.
Change like below:
#using (Html.BeginForm("Create", "Home", FormMethod.Post, new { #class = "form-horizontal" }))
{
<div class="form-group">
<input type="hidden" asp-for="Person.PersonId" value="#Model.Person.PersonId"/>
<input type="submit" value="Create" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm" />
<a asp-action="Details" asp-controller="Person" asp-route-id="#Model.Person.PersonId" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm">Cancel</a>
</div>
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="form-row">
<b> #Html.DisplayFor(model => model.ClinicalSummary.Description) </b>
</div>
#{ var i = 0;} //add here...
#foreach (var question in Model.Questions)
{
<div class="form-row">
<label class="control-label col-md-4">#question.QuestionText</label>
#if (question.QuestionResponse.Count() != 0)
{
//change here....
#Html.DropDownList("ClinicalSummaryAnswer["+i+ "].AnswerId", new SelectList(question.QuestionResponse, "ResponseId", "ResponseText"), new { #class = "form-control col-md-4" })
}
else
{
//change here....
#Html.TextBox("ClinicalSummaryAnswer["+i+"].OtherText",null, new { placeholder = "", #class = "form-control col-md-4", #type = "date" });
}
</div>
i++; //add here...
}
</div>
}
Besides, the following code should be modify:
//change the value
<input type="hidden" asp-for="Person.PersonId" value="#Model.Person.PersonId"/>
<input type="submit" value="Create" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm" />
//change asp-route-id here..
<a asp-action="Details" asp-controller="Person" asp-route-id="#Model.Person.PersonId" class="btn btn-outline-primary btn-sm">Cancel</a>

But Modal Error is not showing on view. What could be the cause ?
When you set your model error then you use RedirectToAction, what mean that you load new page, check in your debug, after that your code go back to GET method and everything is reloaded.
You have to return your View with model.
ModelState.AddModelError("DAT_START_OFFER", "Date Not Available");
if (Edit != null)
{
return View(modal); //if your model is object named modal
}
You didn't see any error because of RedirectToAction. You should use the "View" method. For example you can just write return EditOffer()
If you use return RedirectToAction("EditOffer"); the error will not been show it will be redirect to public ActionResult EditOffer(){} Action method, the [HttpGet] will be shown. To rectify this error, you should use View() method. like return View(); it return the error to the form data posted page.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult EditOffer(tbl_offer modal, string Add, string Edit)
{
if (ModelState.IsValid)
{
using (joyryde_storeEntities context = new joyryde_storeEntities())
{
var offerID = Convert.ToInt64(Request.RequestContext.RouteData.Values["id"]);
if (!isOfferExist(modal.DAT_START_OFFER.Value.Date, modal.DAT_END_OFFER.Value.Date.AddHours(23).AddMinutes(59).AddSeconds(59).AddMilliseconds(999), Convert.ToInt64(Session["StoreID"]), offerID, Add, Edit, context))
{
// My Code
return RedirectToAction("AllOffers", "Store");
}
else
{
ModelState.AddModelError("DAT_START_OFFER", "Date Not Available"); // Here i am adding Modal Error For Date
if (Edit != null)
{
return View(modal);
}
else
{
return RedirectToAction("AddOffer");
}
}
}
}
else
{
ViewBag.OfferID = Here give the office id;
ViewBag.Header = "Edit " + objOffer.TXT_OFFER_TITLE;
ViewBag.ActionToPerform = "Edit";
ModelState.AddModelError("","Your Error Message"); // Here i am adding Modal Error For Date
return View(modal);
}
}

Make Label and Checkbox closer together in razor view

I have a label and a checkbox in my view that I would like next to each other. However, as you can see in this picture I cannot get them any closer.
Here is my view code:
#using (Html.BeginForm("AddTechNote", "Ticket", FormMethod.Post)) { #Html.AntiForgeryToken()
<div class="form-group">
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.TicketId)
<div class="col-md-12 col-xs-12">
<div class="col-md-3">
#Html.Label("New Note", new { #class = "control-label" })
</div>
<div class="col-md-1" style="text-align: right">
#Html.Label("Public", new { #class = "control-label" })
</div>
<div class="col-md-1">
#Html.CheckBox("PublicNote", new { #class = "chk=style", #checked = "checked" })
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-12 col-xs-12">
#Html.TextArea("Note", new { cols = 600, #rows = 5 })
</div>
<div class="form-group">
<div class="col-md-2">
<input type="submit" value="Add" class="btn btn-default" />
</div>
#*<div class="col-md-1 col-lg-offset-1">
</div>
*#
</div>
</div>
}
Jesus,
This is what I get with the code you provided. Thank you for your help so far.
You can do following:
Use only one div for both label and checkbox like:
<div class="col-md-1" style="text-align: right">
#Html.Label("Public", new { #class = "control-label" })
#Html.CheckBox("PublicNote", new { #class = "chk=style", #checked = "checked" })
</div>
The label need to wrap the input.
You need to change your Razor view, something like this:
<div class="#Model.ControlDimension">
<div class="checkbox #Model.CheckBoxDivClasses">
<label for="#Model.ControlName">#Html.Raw(Model.Label)#Model.ControlFor</label>
#Model.ValidationMessageFor
</div>
</div>
The control needs to be inside the label element.
In your case, I think ...:
<div class="col-md-2">
<div class="checkbox">
<label for="PublicNote">
Public
#Html.CheckBox("PublicNote", new { #class = "chk=style", #checked = "checked" })
</label>
</div>
</div>

#using (Html.BeginForm("NewInterests", "Club", FormMethod.Post))

Overtime the page loads the Validation message shows for InterestName in the second form AddInterest.
The Get method for the whole form is:
[HttpGet]
public ActionResult NewInterests(NewClubInterestsViewModel model, int id)
{
//Find the Club and then pass its id to the ViewModel
var club = db.Clubs.Find(id);
//model.ClubId = club.ClubId ;
//Interests List
IEnumerable<Interest> allExistingInterests;
//Generate a list of the interests that apply to that type of club
using (ApplicationDbContext context = new ApplicationDbContext())
{
allExistingInterests = context.Interests
.Where(s => s.ClubTypeId == club.ClubTypeId)
.OrderBy(s => s.InterestName)
.ToList();
}
IEnumerable<int> clubInterestIds = club.ClubInterests.Select(x => x.InterestId).ToList();
//Generate the ViewModel with the appropriate Interests
var viewModel = new NewClubInterestsViewModel
{
ClubId = club.ClubId,
Name = club.Name,
ClubTypeId = club.ClubTypeId,
ClubTypeInterests =
allExistingInterests.Select(
x => new ClubInterestsViewModel { InterestId = x.InterestId, InterestName = x.InterestName, selected = clubInterestIds.Contains(x.InterestId) }).ToArray()
};
return View(viewModel);
}
What do I need to do to stop the validation message showing on load?
Remove the NewClubInterestsViewModel model parameter from your GET method. It should be just
public ActionResult NewInterests(int id)
The first step in the model binding process is that instances of your parameters are initialized and then its properties are set based on form values, route values, query string values etc. In your case there are no values to set, so the properties of your model are their defaults, but because you have validation attributes on your properties, validation fails and errors are added to ModelState which are then displayed in the view.
