I'm very new to using C# and .Net on MAC so:
I need to develop a desktop application using either WinForms or WPF with a local database that will not nee any installation, just run the ".exe" file and use the program.
I have a new MAC laptop that runs smooth and an old Windows laptop that takes an hour to load.
So trying to work with the Windows laptop drove me crazy and I've decided to try and compile all the DAL and BL projects on my MAC and have only the UI on the Windows laptop.
I can't work with Microsoft Access as a database on my MAC so I thought I'll use SQLite instead (Still don't know if it's a good idea).
The thing is:
Are there .dll files of SQLite for MAC?
If I compile the DAL and BL projects on my MAC will would I be able to use their .dll files on the UI project in the Windows laptop? Or would I need to copy the projects and replace the SQLite .dll files for Windows?
Appreciate your help.
If your target platform is Windows, you maybe could consider using Windows and Visual Studio via Bootcamp or VM on your Mac. Sqlite can be integrated by nuget package.
Found this link to use SQLite Mono.
Also here is a great tutorial to get started with SQLite: SQLite tutorials

I have created a console app using C# and .Net core version 5 on Visual Studio IDE. I understood how you can publish this app for the same OS. So now I can share my C# project as a .exe with all my friends. But all my friends don't have a windows. Since this is a console app, it said that I could share it with anyone having Linux/Mac. Also, I only have windows.
So the main question: How do I export my .cs project in such a way that I get files for Mac and Linux with just a windows machine? Also is it possible to do this without using non-Microsoft services since it poses security risks?
I have an Windows Embedded Compact v8.00 device installed with build 6247. FYI - This device is an Siemens HMI.
Now I'm looking for the right way to develop applications for this version of Windows. I started trying with Visual Studio 2008, so I build a very simple application with just a useless textbox. After copying the executable to the device I start tried to run the test applications but nothing happens.
After searching the web I found out it's better to install Visual Studio 2015 PRO with an application builder from Microsoft's website.
Is this the right way to do? What else does I need to know when developing applications for Windows Compact 2013?
To create applications for Windows Embedded Compact 2013 you need VS2013 or VS2015 professional with the Application Builder plugin and a valid SDK installed on your PC.
If you develop managed apps you also need to check in the .NET runtime is already part of the image or find a way to deploy and install it permanently on your device (the way to do this may change depending on the device configuration, registry type etc.)
I want to created and app which uses VMware ovftool, but the app needs that ovftool installed on each PC that you want to use. Most of the computers in my office does not have that ovftool installed, so I started to wonder if there is way to import/include/merge the ovftool to my C# project and to access it from there?
Write an installer (WiX will do it all, but has quite a steep learning curve), and make sure that any prerequisites are installed with your app.
I am new to using Xamarin and have always used Visual Studio, however I now require to develop a desktop application which will run on both Mac and Windows, OR at least a package which will let me package for both.
I have created a GTK 2.0 Project, connected to a MySQL database etc and all is fine, however I can only see options to create a .exe and no .dmg file for OS X but the debugger lets me run it on my Mac.
Does anyone have any ideas or pointers?
We use Xamarin.Mac to enable us to develop a Windows and Mac client using c#.
We chose to re-build the core code in Xamarin Studio and use interfaces to abstract the OS dependent code.
We share 90% of our code in the Xamarin.Mac/VS solutions.
Do let me know if I'm helping... if so I can provide more detail if need be.
Check the following link on how to create an .app bundle with Xamarin:
How to set Xamarin MonoMac project so its build outputs .app package instead of .exe?
An app bundle is basically a special kind of folder structure that contains all app data, including e.g. graphical resources, configuration files, localisations, etc...
A .dmg file is used for distribution and can be created using other tools like Apple's own Disk Utility, once you've created the app.
I have C# windows cs project. The application enables opening word documents and pictures as well and storing them in MS Access database. I made a setup and it installs well on computers where Visual Studio 2008 is installed, but when I install it on a computer with no VS installed, it installs and after that it doesn't starts to run.
I can not run it.
Some other C# projects I made can be installed and run without problems on the same computers on which this application doesn't start.
Can anybody help me please what could be my problem?
Thank you in advance
Possible lacks some of the .net framework components on computer with no Vs installed, because when you installing VS,all the necessary components are also installed
Most likely it seems that the computer with no VS installed does not have .NET framework installed.
And where you are testing on computers with VS installed it obviously works as .NET frameworkis already installed.
I think there is an option in setup where you can specify Prerequisites before installing your application, google out more info on this.
This link might help.
If other Applications do run then it's possible that you may miss some dependencies.
Check if all dll's are installed properly. Which framework do you use ? Are the other C# projects also programmed in that framework ?
