I have a working method, that export to excel, but the issue is file extension is not support and being not format. This is not user friendly, how can I improve this from not allow a user to see this issue?
// controller
public void ExportToExcel()
{
var v = new GridView();
v.DataSource = this.GetExtractionViewModels();
v.DataBind();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=ExtractionRecords.xls");
Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel";
Response.Charset = "";
StringWriter objStringWriter = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter htmlTextWriter = new HtmlTextWriter(objStringWriter);

Response.End();
//return View("DataResult");
}

I have tried this:
if (dt.Rows.Count > 0){
dgv.DataSource = dt;
dgv.DataBind();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition","attachement;filename=transaction.xls");
Response.ContentType = "application/excel";
StringWriter stringWritter = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter htmlTextWritter = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWritter);
dgv.RenderControl(htmlTextWritter);
Response.Write(stringWritter.ToString());
HttpContext.Current.Response.Flush();
HttpContext.Current.Response.SuppressContent = true;
HttpContext.Current.ApplicationInstance.CompleteRequest();
butnothing happens.
i have tried this but also nothing:
StringWriter osStringWritter = new StringWriter();
Html32TextWriter osHtmlTextWritter = new Html32TextWriter(osStringWritter);
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
DataGrid dgv = new DataGrid();
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = false;
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", string.Format("attachment;filename={0}.xls", "TransactionReport"));
Response.Charset = "";
dgv.DataSource = dt;
dgv.DataBind();
dgv.RenderControl(osHtmlTextWritter);
Response.Write("Report Datw:" + DateTime.Now);
Response.Write(osStringWritter.ToString());
//Response.End();
HttpContext.Current.Response.Flush();
HttpContext.Current.Response.SuppressContent = true;
HttpContext.Current.ApplicationInstance.CompleteRequest();
dgv = null;
osStringWritter = null;
osHtmlTextWritter = null;
What i'm doing wrong ?
Try this may resolve your issue
dgv.DataSource = dt;
dgv.DataBind();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename = Export to Excel.xls");
Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel";
Response.Charset = "";
using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter())
{
using (HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw))
{
dgv.RenderControl(htw);
Response.Output.Write(sw.ToString());
Response.Flush();
Response.End();
}
}

Export gridview to excel WITHOUT gridview formatting

I have tried many things to just to export data only from the gridview. But it always export gridview formatting as well. Below is my code
private void ExportGridToExcel()
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ClearContent();
Response.ClearHeaders();
Response.Charset = "";
string fileName = "QAFormNotReceived" + DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") + ".xls";
StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter htmlTextWriter = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWriter);
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" + fileName);
gvInsQANotReceived.HeaderStyle.Reset();
gvInsQANotReceived.FooterStyle.Reset();
gvInsQANotReceived.AlternatingRowStyle.Reset();
gvInsQANotReceived.RowStyle.Reset();
gvInsQANotReceived.BackColor = Color.Transparent;
gvInsQANotReceived.GridLines = GridLines.None;
gvInsQANotReceived.RenderControl(htmlTextWriter);
Response.Write(stringWriter.ToString());
Response.End();
}
This the Excel spreadsheet
Spreadsheet I require
Any help is appreciated. I know next option is to try to use a string builder and write the rows one by one.
Thanks

grv_dashboard.RenderControl(htmltextwrtter);
Response.Write(strwritter.ToString());
using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter())
{
using (HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw))
{
Table table = new Table();
table.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.Solid;
table.BorderWidth=new Unit(1);
table.BorderColor = System.Drawing.Color.Black;
table.GridLines = GridLines.Both;
}
}
strwritter.Write(#"<html xmlns:x=""urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:excel"">");
strwritter.Write(#"<head>
<xml>
<x:ExcelWorkbook>
<x:ExcelWorksheets>
<x:ExcelWorksheet>

have a look at below function that I wrote before,please ask if something is unclear,hope it helps
public void ToExcel(DataTable dt, string reportName)
{
if (dt.Rows.Count > 0)
{
string filename = string.Format("{0}.xls", reportName);
System.IO.StringWriter sw = new System.IO.StringWriter();
System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter htw = new System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(sw);
HtmlForm hf = new HtmlForm();
DataGrid dg = new DataGrid();
dg.DataSource = dt;
dg.HeaderStyle.BackColor = Color.Tomato;//change to your own colors
dg.HeaderStyle.ForeColor = Color.White;//change to your own colors
dg.BackColor = Color.LightGoldenrodYellow;//change to your own colors
dg.AlternatingItemStyle.BackColor = Color.PaleGoldenrod;//change to your own colors
dg.Font.Name = "Tahoma";
dg.Font.Size = 10;
dg.GridLines = GridLines.Both;
dg.BorderColor = System.Drawing.Color.Black;
dg.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.Solid;
dg.BorderWidth = new Unit(1);
dg.DataBind();
HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();
HttpContext.Current.Response.Buffer = true;
HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet";
HttpContext.Current.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + filename);
HttpContext.Current.Response.Charset = "";
EnableViewState = false;
Controls.Add(hf);
hf.Controls.Add(dg);
hf.RenderControl(htw);
HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(sw.ToString());
HttpContext.Current.Response.End();
}
}

when exporting more then 500000 records in excel using C# .net it gives System.OutOfMemoryException was unhandled by user code

I stuck in the issue of exporting excel it gives error System.OutOfMemoryException in excel 2007 we cam export 1000000 rows but while exporting more then 250000 rows its gives the error the logic to upload the excel as i am using is
Response.Clear();
Response.Charset = "";
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
string FileName = "PoliciesDetailsForBranch";
Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + FileName + ".xls");
System.IO.StringWriter sw = new System.IO.StringWriter();
System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter hw = new System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(sw);
GridView gv = new GridView();
this.EnableViewState = false;
gv.DataSource = (DataTable)dt;
gv.DataBind();
this.ClearControls(gv);
gv.RenderControl(hw);
Response.Write(sw.ToString());
Response.End();
Can any one give me the solution to cope up with this issue.
Instead of using a StringBuilder and causing the whole thing to be converted to a string in memory, send it directly to the Response.Output.
Response.Buffer = true;//left unmodified, but why were you buffering?
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
string FileName = "PoliciesDetailsForBranch";
Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" + FileName + ".xls");
GridView gv = new GridView();
this.EnableViewState = false;
gv.DataSource = (DataTable)dt;
gv.DataBind();
this.ClearControls(gv);
System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter hw = new System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(Response.Output);
gv.RenderControl(hw);
Response.End();
