I've been trying fruitlessly to deploy SQL Server CE to remote computers. The problem, I feel, is that it's not picking up the dlls.
I've set CopyLocal to EntityFramework.SqlserverCompact and System.Data.SqlServerCe as explained here http://erikej.blogspot.co.il/2011/02/using-sql-server-compact-40-with.html. I've then copied the entire debug directory over.
I've tried it with Sql Server Compact global and local installation. Same issue.
I still can't figure why the dll isn't loading. At least I think it isn't loading. Here's the stack trace and you can see that it doesn't even get to anything CE related.
Also sometimes the error I get is "Could not load the underlying provider."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a beginner in Visual Studio and SQL. I'm trying to connect my code to a SQL Server database (which has already been created, is empty and waiting for the classes I've made to be migrated there). I'm using Visual Studio 2019, Entity Framework, LinQ. I think the problem might be in the connection string.
Appsetting.json / Connection String:
{
"Logging": {
"LogLevel": {
"Default": "Warning"
}
},
"AllowedHosts": "*",
"ConnectionString": {
//"ImprovedWorkCenterDBConnection": "Server=LAPTOP-9APFC4I1\\SQLEXPRESS;Database=ImprovedWorkCenterDB;Trusted_Connection=True;"
"ImprovedWorkCenterDBConnection": "Server=DESKTOP-DHUNQCJ\\SQLEXPRESS;Database=ImprovedWorkCenterDB;Trusted_Connection=True;"
}
}
Error message when I try to "update-database" after I added the new migration on Nuget console:

Here's the server name from SQL Server:
enter image description here
I've followed documentation and YouTube tutorials to fix SQL error 26, and nothing's worked so far. I checked the name of the DB and Server name, and they seem to match.
In your picture, sql server doesn't have an instance name specified. If that is correct, drop the instance name (SQLEXPRESS) from connection string. The error states that the server name cannot be found.

I am using EF DB first implementation. I have this autogenerated Context class.
public DbSet<Logs> Logs { get; set; }
I am accessing it with my repository all around in my application from about 10-20 places.
_repository.Logs.Where(....).ToList()
Once in a while the DB goes down or does a restart or whatever, but the getting exception.

So basically the only code where I could catch it is where I call _repository.Logs.Select(..... That means I would have to write the same code to 10-20 places, which I don't like.
What I want to do it the catch the exception in one place or silently catch it, and it will continue with empty List(). Any ways to catch it in one central place?
I ended up making a method IsAlive() inside DbContext, it will check if it gets a connection, if not, it will return empty list.
public bool IsAlive() {
try {
Database.Connection.Open();
return true;
} catch (Exception e) {
return false;
}
}

As you can see in the last line, there is a reference to my local computer:

Can anyone tell me, why this is? And how to fix it.
Kind Regards,

This information comes from PDB file and there is no need to fix that, unless you do not want to expose this path. In that case you can turn off generation of PDB completely: go to project settings, Build properties, select the Release configuration (I assume you are using that), click Advanced... button and select Debug Info to None.

Someone help please?
I know this is an old thread. But, by any chance, are you trying to change the app.config file during runtime?
it happened to me, and #Evk gave me a great explanation of what was happening.
I have little experience with C#, ASP, .NET, Visual Studio, or Azure. I have a web application that is performing fine when deployed to Azure (I still don't understand this process), but when I run Debug -> Start Debugging in Visual Studio 2012, I get this error:
System.Data.EntityException was unhandled by user code

I would appreciate tips on how to sort it out as well as suggestions for essential background reading.
Thank you.
EDIT:
My connection string, in Web.config, is:
<!-- local -->
<add name="Entities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Models.Awesomeness.csdl|res://*/Models.Awesomeness.ssdl|res://*/Models.Awesomeness.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=.;initial catalog=Awesomeness;integrated security=True;multipleactiveresultsets=True;App=EntityFramework"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
For me, in the web configuration file, from the ConnectionString, I removed
integrated security=True;
and it worked like a breeze!
Check your connection string in debug.
Click tools>connect to database.
Try to connect to the sql server database.
If you can't then that means it is not the connection string. I got this error
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server."
So you can search for that error, there is plenty of help for it online.
If you are able to connect to the database in Visual Studio then click on the database and in the properties windows you will see the connection string. You can copy and past the connection string into your application, then you will know it is correct.
