Saving image in sql database C# - c#

I want to save images in SQL database when selected by users. So far i have typed this code. This doesn't give me any error but doesn't add to the database.
I think something is wrong with the SQL Statement.
can someone help me?
This is my code:
public void addImages(string tag1,string tag2,string tag3,string status,string fileName)
{
try
{
byte[] image = null;
FileStream fsstream = new FileStream(fileName,FileMode.Open,FileAccess.Read);
BinaryReader br = new BinaryReader(fsstream);
image = br.ReadBytes((int)fsstream.Length);
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO [ImagesAndTags] (Images,Tags,Tag2,Tag3,Status) values (#IMG,'" + tag1 + "','" + tag2 + "','" + tag3 + "','" + status + "')", con);
con.Open();
command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("#IMG",image));
SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader();
MessageBox.Show("Added Successfully!!!", "", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);
while (reader.Read()) { }
}
catch(Exception ex) { }
}

ExecuteReader returns data. In your case, you are not. You just try insert a row in your database. That's why you need to use ExecuteNonQuery instead.
And parameterize your other insert values as you did for image variable. Also use using statement to dispose your database connections and commands.
int insertedRowCount = command.ExecuteNonQuery();
if(insertedRowCount > 0)
MessageBox.Show("Added Successfully!!!", "", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);

Remove all the backslash, single inverted-commas and double inverted commas from the DATA you are storing in the database.
Replace it with some constant string and while retrieving it back again convert it to original.

Fill textbox with an incremented value from access database in C#

I created a C# application to query and insert a product database. However I am here with a small doubt and if anyone can help me i thank you right away.
The following is:
I have a form to insert data into the database created in MS Access 2007, with the values of reference, sale number, client code, client name, quantity and position number in archive;
Here is my code until the moment:
private void btn_save_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
OleDbConnection con = new OleDbConnection(#"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=product.accdb");
OleDbCommand check_sn = new OleDbCommand("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [product] WHERE ([sn] = #sn)", con);
OleDbCommand check_reference = new OleDbCommand("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [product] WHERE ([reference] = #ref)", con);
OleDbCommand check_number = new OleDbCommand("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [product] WHERE ([number] = #num)", con);
con.Open();
check_reference.Parameters.AddWithValue("#ref", textBox_ref.Text);
check_sn.Parameters.AddWithValue("#sn", textBox_sn.Text);
check_number.Parameters.AddWithValue("#num", textBox_num.Text);
int refExist = (int)check_reference.ExecuteScalar();
int SNExist = (int)check_sn.ExecuteScalar();
int numExist = (int)check_number.ExecuteScalar();
if (refExist > 0)
{
MessageBox.Show("A product with this reference already exists....!");
}
else if (SNExist> 0)
{
MessageBox.Show("A product with this sale number already exists....!");
}
else if (numExist > 0)
{
MessageBox.Show("A product with this archive number already exists....!");
}
else
{
try
{
String reference = textBox_ref.Text.ToString();
String sn = textBox_ov.Text.ToString();
String cod_client = textBox_cod.Text.ToString();
String client = textBox_cliente.Text.ToString();
String qtd = textBox_qtd.Text.ToString();
String number = textBox_num.Text.ToString(); //This will be the incremented number
String my_query = "INSERT INTO product(reference,sn,cod_client,client,qtd,number)VALUES('" + reference + "','" + sn + "','" + cod_client + "','" + client + "','" + qtd + "','" + number + "')";
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(my_query, con);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
MessageBox.Show("Data saved successfully...!");
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show("Failed due to" + ex.Message);
}
finally
{
con.Close();
}
cleanTextBoxes(this.Controls);
}
}
private void search_btn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Form search = new Form_search();
search.Show();
this.Hide();
}
}
}
How can i make it so that instead of manually entering the position number in archive in the textbox it can be automatically filled with the new position in archive. For example, my last product inserted has the position 50 in archive, the new one will automatically be number 51 and so on ... and this number should appear automatically in the textbox so that the user knows what is the number of the new registered product.
Thank you,
Ok i have tried this and works but how i do now to increment this value +1?
OleDbConnection con = new OleDbConnection(#"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=Aneis_Calibre.accdb");
con.Open();
OleDbDataReader myReader = null;
OleDbCommand number = new OleDbCommand("SELECT TOP 1 [number] FROM product Order by [number] desc", con);
myReader = number.ExecuteReader();
while (myReader.Read())
{
textBox_num.Text = (myReader["number"].ToString());
}
con.Close();
Inside your query, you would want to do something along these lines.
INSERT ...
OUTPUT inserted.identity_column
VALUES (...)
That will return a row with a value for the id. The identity column in SQL will always increment automatically for you. Which would alleviate your approach where you grab the last record and do:
int.TryParse(reader["..."]?.ToString(), out int id);
textbox.Text = id++;
By using the scalar, or reader though I would recommend scalar if you return a single column with a modified SQL query would result in the exact newly inserted id.

Show data in Textboxes from database in C#

Is there anything wrong with my code? It is not showing data in textboxes. The same funtion is working for another table in database but not for this one.
private void metroButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
con = new SqlConnection(constr);
String query = "Select FROM Student WHERE Std_ID = '" + metroTextBox1.Text + "'";
cmd = new SqlCommand(query, con);
con.Open();
try
{
using (SqlDataReader read = cmd.ExecuteReader())
{
while (read.Read())
{
// metroTextBox1.Text = (read["ID"].ToString());
metroTextBox2.Text = (read["Name"].ToString());
metroTextBox3.Text = (read["F_Name"].ToString());
metroTextBox4.Text = (read["Std_Age"].ToString());
metroTextBox5.Text = (read["Address"].ToString());
metroTextBox6.Text = (read["Program"].ToString());
metroComboBox1.Text = (read["Course"].ToString());
}
}
}
finally
{
con.Close();
}
}
you need to give column names in the select statement or select *
for example :
String query = "Select * from Student WHERE Std_ID = '" + metroTextBox1.Text + "'";
Not related to Question: you can change the while loop to if condition if you have one record for given id. even there are many records for given id you will see the last record data only because of the while loop will overwrite the textboxes in every record.
Update :
There isn't anything wrong with Syntax because the same syntax is
working for modifying teacher funtion.
No, this is incorrect, remove the try catch in your code then you will see the exception of syntax error

label names must be unique within a query batch or stored procedure

Hello I have a problem with this code, when i press the button i get the following ERROR : Incorrect syntax near 'Text:'.

private void DodajDelavcaa_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(global::Easy_Podjetnik.Properties.Settings.Default.Database1ConnectionString);
try
{
string Spoll = "";
if (RB_M.Checked)
{
Spoll = "Moški";
}
else if (RB_Z.Checked)
{
Spoll = "Ženski";
}
string sql = "INSERT INTO Delavci(Ime, Priimek, Spol, Leto_Rojstva, Placa) values(" + AddIme + "," + AddPriimek + "," + Spoll + "," + Add_Datum + "," + PlacaD + ")";
SqlCommand exeSql = new SqlCommand(sql, con);
con.Open();
exeSql.ExecuteNonQuery();
MessageBox.Show("Congrtz", "Good" ,MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Hand);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
}
finally
{
con.Close();
}
this.Close();
}
Very likely this is caused by an error in an Insert Trigger on your Delavci table. That is not the only possibility, but it is the most likely one.
If it is not that, then likely the only way to catch it would be to use trace/profiler on your SQL Server.
Hmm, given that you are compositing your SQL statement (instead of using parameters, as recommended) this could also be caused by bad data in your Values(..) variables. To check this, use Debug.Print to record the actual text of the SQL command before you execute it.

How to get multiple rows from access database

I am trying to store each row of a access database, based on column Veh_ID. The found data may or may not be based on multiple rows. The code I am currently using can copy single row but if there are multiple results I can only get the first result. Can anyone please help me on this? I am noob when it comes to database. I tried to search Google but no one seems to be needing what I need. Here's the code I'm using:
string cmd1 = "SELECT * FROM Veh_checkup WHERE Veh_ID = " + veh_idd + "";
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(cmd1, con);
OleDbDataReader read = cmd.ExecuteReader();
read.Read();
veh_id=null;
int i=0;
foreach (var a in read)
{
try
{
veh_id = veh_id + " " + read[i].ToString();
}
catch { }
i++;
}
There are a few things I would point out, some specific to your question, some not:
USE PARAMETERISED QUERIES
Use OleDbDataReader.Read() to move to the next record.
Use a StringBuilder to concatenate strings in a loop, using string = string + "something" will create a new string on the heap with each iteration
Use using blocks on Disposable objects
catch { } is not good practice. You will never know an error occurred. At the very least you should log the error somewhere so you know you need to fix something.
OleDbDataReader[i] will get the data from column i for the current record being read, not the data from row i
Don't use SELECT * in production code, especially if you are only using 1 column. It is unnecessary data retrieval from the database and also unnecessary network traffic.
USE PARAMETERISED QUERIES
Okay, I know I included using parameterised queries twice, but that is how strongly I feel about it!
With the above changes made, your full code will become something like:
static string GetStringData(string vehID)
{
StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder();
string cmd1 = "SELECT Column1 FROM Veh_checkup WHERE Veh_ID = #VehID";
using (OleDbConnection con = new OleDbConnection("YourConnectionString"))
using (OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(cmd1, con))
{
con.Open();
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#VehID", vehID);
using (OleDbDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader())
{
while (reader.Read())
{
builder.Append(" " + reader.GetString(0));
}
}
}
return builder.ToString();
}
You are using the datareader in a wrong way. Instead of calling it once like you do, you have to call the datareader in a while loop like this:
while(theDataReader.Read())
{
// do your stuff in a loop now
}
So using this approach in your code would look something like this:
string cmd1 = "SELECT * FROM Veh_checkup WHERE Veh_ID = " + veh_idd + "";
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(cmd1, con);
OleDbDataReader read = cmd.ExecuteReader();
veh_id=null;
con.Open();
while(read.Read()) //your reader
{
try
{
veh_id = veh_id + " " + read[i].ToString();
}
catch { }
}

C# reading int from mysql

Having problem reading a value from my table in mysql, is the index value i cant read the value back no matter what. all i get is the initialized value of 0 i dont get any error because it return 0, if i run the query in the database it get the correct value. i tried to use executeScalar() but with the same result .
MySqlConnection conn = new MySqlConnection(MyConString);
ulong ukey=0;
try
{
string sql_users2 = "SELECT `key` FROM `permuser` WHERE `user` = '" + myuser + "' AND `code` = '" + mycode + "'";
MySqlCommand cmdSel2 = new MySqlCommand(sql_users2, conn);
conn.Open();
MySqlDataReader dr2 = cmdSel2.ExecuteReader();
dr2.Read();
ukey = dr2.GetUInt64(dr2.GetOrdinal("key"));
// MessageBox.Show("Sorry " + myuser + " already have access to " + mycode + ",\nIf this is an extension, search for the user which key is " + ukey + " and edit the end date.", "Duplicate User Warning", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning);
dr2.Close();
dr2.Dispose();
}
catch (MySqlException ex) //catch 2
{
MessageBox.Show("catch ukey\nCan't connect to database\n" + ex.ToString());
}
conn.Close();
conn.Dispose();
You are returning a single value from your query, so you could use directly ExecuteScalar instead of ExecuteReader. (the link point to the description for SqlServer, but it is the same for MySql)
An important question to never forget is the usage of parameters instead of string concatenation.
What happen if your myuser or mycode variables contain a single quote? You get wrong results or syntax errors.
Of course, the main problem is the Sql Injection attack to never understimate.
using(MySqlConnection conn = new MySqlConnection(MyConString))
{
ulong ukey=0;
try
{
string sql_users2 = "SELECT `key` FROM `permuser` WHERE `user` = #usr AND `code` = #code";
MySqlCommand cmdSel2 = new MySqlCommand(sql_users2, conn);
conn.Open();
cmdSel2.Parameters.AddWithValue("#usr", myuser);
cmdSel2.Parameters.AddWithValue("#code", mycode);
object result = cmdSel2.ExecuteScalar();
if(result != null)
ukey = Convert.ToUInt64(result);
}
catch (MySqlException ex) //catch 2
{
MessageBox.Show("catch ukey\nCan't connect to database\n" + ex.ToString());
}
}
also I am a bit perplexed about your usage of UInt64. What kind of datatype is stored in the key column?
way is many simply:
ukey = (uint)dr2[0];
