I have a gridView that I wish to add a textbox to. I want the textbox to be located in the footer, but I have no idea how to do that.
This is my gridview:
<asp:GridView ID="gvTest" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false"
AllowSorting="True"
ShowFooter="True"
ShowHeaderWhenEmpty="true"
OnRowDataBound="gvTest_RowDataBound"
Width="550px">
<EmptyDataTemplate>
No data.
</EmptyDataTemplate>
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="Name" headerText="Name"/>
<asp:TemplateField>
<HeaderTemplate>
Actions
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ImageButton ID="imbView" runat="server" ToolTip="View details" ImageUrl="~/css/images/Search.png" Width="16" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
I've seen people talking about adding something like this:
<FooterTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="tbName" runat="server"/>
</FooterTemplate>
But I dont know where or how to add it. If I just put it in between the <asp:TemplateField>tags it messes up (probably because my boundfields).
Additional information:
I bind the gridview using DataTable. The real table has more columns, but this will suffice for an example.
Switch from:
<asp:TemplateField>
<HeaderTemplate>
Actions
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ImageButton ID="imbView" runat="server" ToolTip="View details" ImageUrl="~/css/images/Search.png" Width="16" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
to:
<asp:TemplateField>
<HeaderTemplate>
Actions
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ImageButton ID="imbView" runat="server" ToolTip="View details" ImageUrl="~/css/images/Search.png" Width="16" />
</ItemTemplate>
<FooterTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="tbName" runat="server"/>
</FooterTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
It's easy if you understand, that you can devide your TemplateField into three sections:
Header
Item(or main content)
Footer
Greetz
You will need to put it in the template field.. like this..
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="BankName" SortExpression="BankName">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("BankName") %>'></asp:TextBox>
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("BankName") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
<FooterTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="tbAddBankName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</FooterTemplate>
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" VerticalAlign="Middle" />
</asp:TemplateField>
this is an example from my working code.

I have written below lines of code in order to hide and show column in gridview based on the condition.
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="FirstName" Visible='<%# Eval("FirstName") != null ? true:false %>'>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblFirstName" runat="server" Text='<%#Eval("FirstName") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
It's not working!
Update in code as below :
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="FirstName" Visible='<%= !string.IsNullOrEmpty(Eval("FirstName")) ? "true" : "false" %>'>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblFirstName" runat="server" Text='<%#Eval("FirstName") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="FirstName" Visible='<%# !string.IsNullOrEmpty(Eval("FirstName")) ? "true" : "false" %>'>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblFirstName" runat="server" Text='<%#Eval("FirstName") %>'></asp:Label>

During Binding the grid data
this.GridDisplay.Columns[2].Visible = false;
i want edit and delete button on the right side of the gridview not
at left side of grid. for user friendly manipulation of gridview.

you need to set AutoGenerateColumns property false and create the required columns for the grid using property within the html source of the grid in whatever order you want. The columns can be pre defined columns like CheckBoxField, ImageField etc. or templatecolumns. The following example shows creating a grid with edit and delete buttons on right for a table with name DEPT having three columns DEPTNO, DNAME and LOC.
<asp:GridView ID="GvDept" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"

AllowSorting="True"

AutoGenerateDeleteButton="True"

OnRowDeleting="gv_cats_RowDeleting">

<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="editSalesOrder" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("SalesOrder") %>'/>
</EditItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
The code runs fine and loading as well. But when trying to press the ItemTemplate field nothing happens. I want to be able to load my EditItemTemplate and edit the cell. What am I missing?
The EditItemTemplate is shown when the GridView switches into edit mode. That happens when an edit button is clicked. There are a few ways to do this.
On the GridView, set AutoGenerateEditButton to true.
AutoGenerateEditButton="true"
Or create a command field that shows the edit button.
<Columns>
<asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" />
....
</Columns>
Or within the GridView, create a button that has CommandName set to "Edit".
<asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server"
Text="Text"
CommandName="Edit" />
I have two Template fields in a datagrid whose values I need to pass in a query string in a Hyperlink field in the datagrid.
The first value I need is the Nest Number. The second is the Park Name.
How do I put those values in the querystring?
Here is the start of the gridview with the two Templates:
<asp:GridView ID="NestListGrid" runat="server" CellPadding="4" ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="None" AutoGenerateColumns="False" Width="95%" OnRowCancelingEdit="NestListGrid_RowCancelingEdit" OnRowEditing="NestListGrid_RowEditing" OnRowUpdating="NestListGrid_RowUpdating" >
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="NestID" Visible="False" />
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Nest Nbr">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="NestNumber_tbx" Width="100px" MaxLength="10" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("NestNumber") %>'></asp:TextBox>
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="NestNumber_lbl" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("NestNumber") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Park">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="Park_ddl" runat="server" DataSourceID="ParkIDNameGridViewDDL_SDS"
DataTextField="ParkName" DataValueField="ParkID" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("ParkID") %>' >
</asp:DropDownList>
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="ParkName_lbl" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ParkName") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
...etc...
Here is the Hyperlink Query String later in the datagrid:
<asp:HyperLinkField Text="Nest Info" DataNavigateUrlFields="NestID" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="NestInfoUser.aspx?NestID={0}&NestNumber={0}&ParkName={0}" />
-
You can use with comma.
<asp:HyperLinkField Text="Nest Info" DataNavigateUrlFields="NestID,ParkName"
DataNavigateUrlFormatString="NestInfoUser.aspx?NestNumber={0}&ParkName={1}" />
i have a grid view in the web custom control and want to select any row and so that i can edit that row. the edit button is on the master page and default.aspx is inherited from that master and know i want the row id on my defult page so that i can edit that row easily.
my web user control is
<asp:GridView runat="server" ID="grvBranches" GridLines="None"
AutoGenerateColumns="False" CellPadding="5"
OnRowDataBound="grvBranches_RowDataBound"
OnRowCancelingEdit="grvBranches_RowCancelingEdit"

<HeaderStyle BackColor="#d8d8d8" />

<asp:TemplateField>
<HeaderTemplate>
<asp:Label Text="BranchName" ID="lblHeaderBranchName" runat="server" />
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label Text='<%# Eval("ID") %>' ID="lblID" Visible="false" runat="server" />

</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label Text='<%# Eval("Address_1") %>' ID="lblAddress" runat="server" />

</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:BoundField />
<asp:CommandField ShowSelectButton="True" />
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
and i want this rowid in on my Default page
On your master page .cs, on the EditButton click event
GridView gView = ContentPlaceHolder1.FindControl("GridView1") as GridView;
// use gView.SelectedIndex to manipulate the row, edit it, etc
Assuming your main ContentPlaceHolder's ID is 'ContentPlaceHolder1'
