How to Add the values of List<string> into the List<PictureBox> after encoding it to Barcode in c#
(3 answers)
Closed 9 years ago.
I have an array of type PictureBox. I want to fill it the List of string and then covert it to the Barcode. But I am uncle to convert the string to the PictureBox. Is there any step I can do to make them compatible?
System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox[] PictureBoxArray = new PictureBox[3];
List<string> serial = new List<string>;
public void ConvertToBarCode()
{
BarcodeLib.TYPE barcodetype1 = BarcodeLib.TYPE.CODE39;
BarcodeLib.Barcode bar1 = new BarcodeLib.Barcode();
bar1.IncludeLabel = true;
PictureBoxArray[0] = serial[0]; // Want to Convert String to PictureBox
PictureBoxArray[0].Image = bar1.Encode(barcodetype1, SerialNumberList[0]);
}
I have filles the serial List with the string now just want the conversion.
you want like this.. right?? see this is the representaion of the this string "S1253551" in 3of9 and plain text and finally as image right??
public Image stringToImage(string inputString)
{
string text = inputString.Trim();
Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(1, 1);
//Set the font style of output image
Font font = new Font("Free 3 of 9", 25, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
Font font2 = new Font("Arial", 15, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
Graphics graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
int width = (int)graphics.MeasureString(text, font).Width;
int height = (int)graphics.MeasureString(text, font).Height;
int height2 = (int)graphics.MeasureString(text, font2).Height;
bmp = new Bitmap(bmp, new Size(width, height+height2));
graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
//Specify the background color of the image
graphics.Clear(Color.Cyan);
graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;
graphics.TextRenderingHint = TextRenderingHint.AntiAlias;
//Specify the text, font, Text Color, X position and Y position of the image
graphics.DrawString(text, font, new SolidBrush(Color.Black), 0, 0);
graphics.DrawString(text, font2, new SolidBrush(Color.Black), 0, height);
graphics.Flush();
graphics.Dispose();
//if you want to save the image uncomment the below line.
//bmp.Save(#"d:\myimage.jpg", ImageFormat.Jpeg);
return bmp;
}
Remember you must have installed "free 3 of 9" font.
you pass the string "S1253551" and it generate the barcode and add the plain text at bottom and finally return it as image.
Its working code i have tried at my end. Enjoy. :)

I am converting string text to image in c#. It's converting text to image properly but I need image with transparent background. I have try a lot with google r&d but none of that is working.
My code is as below :
string fullName = name.Trim();
Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(1, 1, System.Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppArgb);
string fontName = "Airin.ttf";
PrivateFontCollection privateFontCollection = new PrivateFontCollection();
privateFontCollection.AddFontFile(Server.MapPath("~/Content/fontCss/" + fontName));
FontFamily ff = privateFontCollection.Families[0];
Font font = new Font(ff, 25, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
Graphics graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap);
int width = (int)graphics.MeasureString(fullName, font).Width;
int height = (int)graphics.MeasureString(fullName, font).Height;
bitmap.MakeTransparent(Color.Transparent);
bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmap, new Size(width, height));
graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap);
graphics.Clear(Color.White);
graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;
graphics.TextRenderingHint = TextRenderingHint.AntiAlias;
graphics.DrawString(fullName, font, Brushes.Black, 0, 0);
string fileName = Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".jpg";
bitmap.Save(Server.MapPath("~/UploadedDocuments/") + fileName, ImageFormat.Jpeg);
fileName = "/UploadedDocuments/" + fileName;
So where am I need to change code here for get image with transparent backgroud ?
You need to save the image in a format that supports transparencies, such as GIF or PNG. JPEG does not.
Transparent background in JPEG image
Change the ImageFormat parameter at the end of the following line to an appropriate value (e.g. ImageFormat.Gif or ImageFormat.Png)
bitmap.Save(Server.MapPath("~/UploadedDocuments/") + fileName, ImageFormat.Jpeg);
Also, have you tried changing
graphics.Clear(Color.White);
to use Color.Transparent instead?
In my application, I generate a Bitmap with a variable string.
Here is my function:
public void Image(String text, String font, int size)
{
Font font = new Font(font, size);
float res = ((font.SizeInPoints * text.Length) / 72) * 96;
using (Bitmap img = new Bitmap((int)res, font.Height))
{
Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(img);
SolidBrush drawBrush = new SolidBrush(Color.Black);
g.DrawString(text, font, drawBrush, 1, 0);
String directory = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "Content\\Images\\Signature\\";
string outputFileName = directory + "sign.png";
img.Save(outputFileName, ImageFormat.Png);
}
}
I would like the width of the image to match perfectly the width of the string printed in that bitmap.
As you can see, I tried to calculate the width with point size of the font.
The problem is that each letter printed has a different width so I can not get the size before creating the Bitmap.
Plus, I don't even know how to retrieve the actual size of the printed string...
Does anyone have an idea?
Use the Graphics.MeasureString function. It takes a string and a font, and returns the size of the rendered text as a SizeF. There are also additional overloads that can take formatting information, and one that takes a SizeF representing the maximum width for wrapping.
Details can be found here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/6xe5hazb(v=vs.110).aspx
// Set up string.
string measureString = "Measure String";
Font stringFont = new Font("Arial", 16);
// Set maximum layout size.
SizeF layoutSize = new SizeF(100.0F, 200.0F);
// Set string format.
StringFormat newStringFormat = new StringFormat();
newStringFormat.FormatFlags = StringFormatFlags.DirectionVertical;
// Measure string.
SizeF stringSize = new SizeF();
stringSize = e.Graphics.MeasureString(measureString, stringFont, layoutSize, newStringFormat);
// Draw rectangle representing size of string.
e.Graphics.DrawRectangle(new Pen(Color.Red, 1), 0.0F, 0.0F, stringSize.Width, stringSize.Height);
// Draw string to screen.
e.Graphics.DrawString(measureString, stringFont, Brushes.Black, new PointF(0,

Drawing a Rotated Text to an Image in C#
(2 answers)
Closed 7 years ago.
I have made an application which generates me a QR Code in a PNG image, and prints out the text from QR image, but now I need to rotate that text 90 degrees and I can't find a way to do this...I think that the rectangle must be rotated because the text it's inside this rectangle.
Example:
Code:
namespace QR_Code_with_WFA
{
public void CreateQRImage(string inputData)
{
if (inputData.Trim() == String.Empty)
{
System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show("Data must not be empty.");
}
BarcodeWriter qrcoder = new ZXing.BarcodeWriter
{
Format = BarcodeFormat.QR_CODE,
Options = new ZXing.QrCode.QrCodeEncodingOptions
{
ErrorCorrection = ZXing.QrCode.Internal.ErrorCorrectionLevel.H,
Height = 250,
Width = 250
}
};
string tempFileName = System.IO.Path.GetTempPath() + inputData + ".png";
Image image;
String data = inputData;
var result = qrcoder.Write(inputData);
image = new Bitmap(result);
image.Save(tempFileName);
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(tempFileName);
var result2 = qrcoder.Write(inputData);
int textWidth = 200, textHeight = 20;
// creating new bitmap having imcreased width
var img = new Bitmap(result2.Width + textWidth, result2.Height);
using (var g = Graphics.FromImage(img))
using (var font = new Font(FontFamily.GenericMonospace, 12))
using (var brush = new SolidBrush(Color.Black))
using (var bgBrush = new SolidBrush(Color.White))
using (var format = new StringFormat() { Alignment = StringAlignment.Near })
{
// filling background with white color
g.FillRectangle(bgBrush, 0, 0, img.Width, img.Height);
// drawing your generated image over new one
g.DrawImage(result, new Point(0,0));
// drawing text
g.DrawString(inputData, font, brush, result2.Width, (result2.Height - textHeight) / 2, format);
}
img.Save(tempFileName);
}
}
You need to apply a RotateTransform on the Graphics object before drawing the text:
// Change alignment to center so you don't have to do the math yourself :)
using (var format = new StringFormat() { Alignment = StringAlignment.Center })
{
...
// Translate to the point where you want the text
g.TranslateTransform(result2.Width, result2.Height / 2);
// Rotation happens around that point
g.RotateTransform(-90);
// Note that we draw on [0, 0] because we translated our coordinates already
g.DrawString(inputData, font, brush, 0, 0, format);
// When done, reset the transform
g.ResetTransform();
}
You have to rotate full Graphics:

I have two List one is of string and the other is of PictureBox type. I want to take the values of List of type string and the convert it into the Barcode then save it to the List of type PictureBox.
I am doing it like this right now:
List<System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox> PictureBoxList = new List<System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox>();
List<string> SerialNumberList = new List<string>();
int SerialNumberStart = 0;
for(int i = 0; i < 10 ; i++)
{
SerialNumberStart++;
SerialNumberList.Add("S" + SerialNumberStart);
}
private void PrintButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
for(int j =0 ; j < SerialNumberList.Count ; j++)
{
BarcodeLib.TYPE barcodetype1 = BarcodeLib.TYPE.CODE39;
BarcodeLib.Barcode bar1 = new BarcodeLib.Barcode();
bar1.IncludeLabel = true;
PictureBoxList[j].Image = bar1.Encode(barcodetype1 ,SerialNumberList[j]); // It gives me exception of Index out of range
PictureBoxList.Add(PictureBoxList[j]);
printDocument1.PrintPage += new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventHandler(printDocument1_PrintPage);
printDocument1.Print();
}
}
private void PrintDocument_PrintPage(object sender, System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventArgs e)
{
Bitmap myBitmap1 = new Bitmap(pictureBox1.Width, pictureBox1.Height);
pictureBox1.DrawToBitmap(myBitmap1, new Rectangle(0, 0, pictureBox1.Width, pictureBox1.Height));
e.Graphics.DrawImage(myBitmap1, 0, 0);
myBitmap1.Dispose();
}
My first question is that How can I convert the string into the PictureBox.
And then converting each item of the PictureBox to the Bitmap and then printing all of the bitmaps now the code only Prints one barcode

mean you have string and you have converted it to barcode. finally we have a property in barcode which holds the value of string right?? now you want to display that string as image??
if so then refer the below code -
public Image stringToImage(string inputString)
{
string text = inputString.Trim();
Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(1, 1);
//Set the font style of output image
Font font = new Font("Arial", 25, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
Graphics graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
int width = (int)graphics.MeasureString(text, font).Width;
int height = (int)graphics.MeasureString(text, font).Height;
bmp = new Bitmap(bmp, new Size(width, height));
graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
//Specify the background color of the image
graphics.Clear(Color.Cyan);
graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;
graphics.TextRenderingHint = TextRenderingHint.AntiAlias;
//Specify the text, font, Text Color, X position and Y position of the image
graphics.DrawString(text, font, new SolidBrush(Color.Black), 0, 0);
graphics.Flush();
graphics.Dispose();
//if you want to save the image uncomment the below line.
//bmp.Save(#"d:\myimage.jpg", ImageFormat.Jpeg);
return bmp;
}
I believe, if bar1.Encode actually has return type of Image, this lines in PrintButton_Click method :
PictureBoxList[j].Image = bar1.Encode(barcodetype1 ,SerialNumberList[j]); // It gives me exception of Index out of range
PictureBoxList.Add(PictureBoxList[j]);
should be like this :
var pictureBox = new PictureBox();
pictureBox.Image = bar1.Encode(barcodetype1 ,SerialNumberList[j]);
PictureBoxList.Add(pictureBox);
UPDATE :
To make it clear, my answer above meant PrintButton_Click should be as follow :
private void PrintButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
for(int j =0 ; j < SerialNumberList.Count ; j++)
{
BarcodeLib.TYPE barcodetype1 = BarcodeLib.TYPE.CODE39;
BarcodeLib.Barcode bar1 = new BarcodeLib.Barcode();
bar1.IncludeLabel = true;
var pictureBox = new PictureBox();
pictureBox.Image = bar1.Encode(barcodetype1 ,SerialNumberList[j]);
PictureBoxList.Add(pictureBox);
printDocument1.PrintPage += new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventHandler(printDocument1_PrintPage);
printDocument1.Print();
}
}
I have been searching and looking for Drawing text with outline onto images?
Here my code
private static void tulisnamafile(string imagepath, string textnya)
{
Image image = Image.FromStream(new MemoryStream(File.ReadAllBytes(imagepath)));
Bitmap newImage = new Bitmap(640, 380);
using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(newImage))
{
// Draw base image
g.DrawImageUnscaled(image, 0, 0);
//Static is HERE
SolidBrush brushing = new SolidBrush(Color.White);
Font font = new Font(("Comic Sans MS"), 20.0f);
int napoint = newImage.Height - 90;
int napointa = image.Width - 200;
FontFamily ff = new FontFamily("Times New Roman");
int fontSize = 24;
Font f = new Font(ff, fontSize, FontStyle.Regular);
StringFormat sf = new StringFormat();
Rectangle displayRectangle = new Rectangle(new Point(5, napoint), new Size(newImage.Width - 1, newImage.Height - 1));
g.DrawEllipse(Pens.Magenta, new Rectangle(0, 0, 1, 1));
GraphicsPath gp = new GraphicsPath();
gp.AddString(textnya, ff, (int)FontStyle.Bold, fontSize + 4, new Point(0, 0), sf);
g.FillPath(Brushes.White, gp);
g.DrawPath(Pens.Black, gp);
g.Flush(FlushIntention.Sync);
g.Dispose();
}
image.Dispose();
string fileName = "ab.jpg";
string path = Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, fileName);
MessageBox.Show(path);
newImage.Save(path, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
newImage.Dispose();
}
and Its the trigger
private void button3_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string imagename = "C:\\Documents and Settings\\admin\\My Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\template\\template\\bin\\Debug\\bg.jpg";
tulisnamafile(imagename, "SlimPort® SP1002; Connect mobile devices to any big screen. High Speed micro USB");
}
Check the Code result:
Such messing result, UNWRAPPED and with white color
This what I want, and with wrapping?
I found in CodeProject but not luck, its using C++. Based someone in neowin and tried this one too..
But still not luck.
UPDATE:
Here my working code, for who maybe need it... based from Abdias Software's code ( check the answers ), I make small changes ( there some error in those code).
private static void tulisnamafile(string imagepath, string textnya)
{
float fontSize = 22;
Image image = Image.FromStream(new MemoryStream(File.ReadAllBytes(imagepath)));
//some test image for this demo
Bitmap bmp = (Bitmap)Image.FromFile(imagepath);
Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
//this will center align our text at the bottom of the image
StringFormat sf = new StringFormat();
sf.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center;
sf.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Far;
//define a font to use.
Font f = new Font("Impact", fontSize, FontStyle.Bold, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
//pen for outline - set width parameter
Pen p = new Pen(ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#77090C"), 8);
p.LineJoin = LineJoin.Round; //prevent "spikes" at the path
//this makes the gradient repeat for each text line
Rectangle fr = new Rectangle(0, bmp.Height - f.Height, bmp.Width, f.Height);
LinearGradientBrush b = new LinearGradientBrush(fr,
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#FF6493"),
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#D00F14"),
90);
//this will be the rectangle used to draw and auto-wrap the text.
//basically = image size
Rectangle r = new Rectangle(0, 0, bmp.Width, bmp.Height);
GraphicsPath gp = new GraphicsPath();
//look mom! no pre-wrapping!
gp.AddString(textnya, f.FontFamily, (int)FontStyle.Bold, fontSize, r, sf);
//these affect lines such as those in paths. Textrenderhint doesn't affect
//text in a path as it is converted to ..well, a path.
g.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;
g.PixelOffsetMode = PixelOffsetMode.HighQuality;
//TODO: shadow -> g.translate, fillpath once, remove translate
g.DrawPath(p, gp);
g.FillPath(b, gp);
//cleanup
gp.Dispose();
b.Dispose();
b.Dispose();
f.Dispose();
sf.Dispose();
g.Dispose();
string fileName = "ab.jpg";
string path = Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, fileName);
bmp.Save(path, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
bmp.Dispose();
}
Just to sum up:
Define a GraphicPath and then use DrawPath to draw outlined version of text, FillPath to draw a filled version.
For the second image with the woman, a second (filled) version is drawn first at a small offset.
For the gradient use LinearGradientBrush for brush. Thickness of the outline is defined by the Pen's thickness.
For wrapping define a StringFormat and use a Rectangle to define the region you want the text to be in.
To center the text you can define the rectangle to have the same width as the image, then set strformat.Alignment to Center.
UPDATE: To replicate the text in the second image you can use this code:
float fontSize = 52;
//some test image for this demo
Bitmap bmp = (Bitmap)Image.FromFile(s"test.jpg");
Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp);
//this will center align our text at the bottom of the image
StringFormat sf = new StringFormat();
sf.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center;
sf.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Far;
//define a font to use.
Font f = new Font("Impact", fontSize, FontStyle.Bold, GraphicsUnit.Pixel);
//pen for outline - set width parameter
Pen p = new Pen(ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#77090C"), 8);
p.LineJoin = LineJoin.Round; //prevent "spikes" at the path
//this makes the gradient repeat for each text line
Rectangle fr = new Rectangle(0, bmp.Height - f.Height, bmp.Width, f.Height);
LinearGradientBrush b = new LinearGradientBrush(fr,
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#FF6493"),
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#D00F14"),
90);
//this will be the rectangle used to draw and auto-wrap the text.
//basically = image size
Rectangle r = new Rectangle(0, 0, bmp.Width, bmp.Height);
GraphicsPath gp = new GraphicsPath();
//look mom! no pre-wrapping!
gp.AddString("Demo for Stack Overflow",
f.FontFamily, (int)f.Style, fontSize, r, sf);
//these affect lines such as those in paths. Textrenderhint doesn't affect
//text in a path as it is converted to ..well, a path.
g.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;
g.PixelOffsetMode = PixelOffsetMode.HighQuality;
//TODO: shadow -> g.translate, fillpath once, remove translate
g.DrawPath(p, gp);
g.FillPath(b, gp);
//cleanup
gp.Dispose();
b.Dispose();
b.Dispose();
f.Dispose();
sf.Dispose();
g.Dispose();
bmp.Save(s"test_result.jpg", System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
bmp.Dispose();
This will produce this result:
To produce the extra "shadow" just translate the gfirst, draw filled, then remove the translation.
The FromHtml is used here as I picked the colors from your image and was to lazy to convert. Just use Color.FromARGB() or a fixed color - as you want.
VB version:
Dim fontSize As Single = 52
Dim bmp As Bitmap = Bitmap.FromFile("c:\test.jpg")
Dim g As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp)
Dim sf As New StringFormat(StringFormatFlags.NoClip)
sf.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center
sf.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Far
Dim f As New Font("Impact", fontSize, FontStyle.Bold, GraphicsUnit.Pixel)
Dim p As New Pen(ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#77090C"), 4)
p.LineJoin = LineJoin.Round
'rectangle for font to repeat gradient for each line
Dim fr As New Rectangle(0, bmp.Height - f.Height, bmp.Width, f.Height)
Dim b As New LinearGradientBrush(fr,
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#FF6493"),
ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#D00F14"),
90)
Dim r As New Rectangle(0, 0, bmp.Width, bmp.Height)
Dim gp As New GraphicsPath
gp.AddString("Demo for Stack Overflow",
f.FontFamily,
f.Style,
fontSize,
r,
sf)
g.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias
g.PixelOffsetMode = PixelOffsetMode.HighQuality
g.DrawPath(p, gp)
g.FillPath(b, gp)
gp.Dispose() 'path
b.Dispose() 'b
b.Dispose() 'p
f.Dispose() 'font
sf.Dispose() 'stringformat
g.Dispose() 'g
bmp.Save("c:\test_result.jpg", Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg)
bmp.Dispose()
A simple way to get "better" results could be to draw the text twice. Draw the shadow first, for example some pixels to the right and to the bottom, if you want the classic drop-shadow look, in gray color. You may also want to consider using a different font, any font without serifs will look better i would guess.
For the gradient effect see the msdn page or google how on how to use it.
Also, play around with the SmoothingMode and TextRenderingHint of the graphics object, HighQuality and Antialias should produce better looking results.
