I working on a Windows Phone 7 app with Text-To-Speech capabilities. I'm using Text-To-Speech with Microsoft Translator Service and the following C# code...

In this instance, todayschapter is a StackPanel and its Children are TextBlocks. I'm wanting to simply play audio of each TextBlock, in succession. The problem is that it is play the audio of EVERY TextBlock at the same time.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the problem is SpeakAsync(), but I'm not sure. The documentation shows Speak(), but that isn't available (maybe a different version) in the Visual Studio methods helper dropdown (little thing that shows as you type - not sure what it's called).
Is there a way to make it wait for each play to finish before playing the next? Is foreach not the right choice, for this?
As always, if my code just looks stupid, please recommend better ways. I'm very much a beginner programmer.
Just use the Speak instead of the async call, since you want to have it one after another anyway.
The SpeakAsync call is indeed the problem. Unfortunately, since SpeakAsync doesn't return a Task, you can't just convert this to await SpeakAsync() (which would be the most straightforward conversion).
And, looking at the source code, it doesn't fire an event to tell when it's done. So let's add one (in SpeechSynthesizer.cs):

In short, I need those little white boxes to disappear - they're supposed to house an image, but there is no image, and so I'd rather they disappear.
I've accomplished this using the follow code:

So, I'm trying to develop a simple application in visual C# which gets data from serial port and displays it in a textbox (to monitor temperature). I'm acquiring and displaying the data successfully, using the DataReceived event to update a global string variable and a timer to update the text field on my text box, as shown:

The only issue I have is that the value shown in the textbox keeps flashing, making it hard to read. My timer is set to trigger every 10 ms (which should be fast enough, right?). Is there any way to make it more stable? I realize this may be a newb question, but to be fair I am a newb :) Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Do you really need it updating every 10ms? What about every 500 ms or if not that then 100ms. 100ms will require your update method run 10 times less and therefore update 10 times less. The flickering you are expiriencing is due to the refresh speed. You could create custom method which will only update the temp only when target Label or textBox value is different than source port. But that will only sort the flickering when temp is steady, when temp will start vary it will bring back the flickering. Good luck ;-)
UPDATE
Hi I tried to reproduce the conditions and could not make my textbox nor Label flash. The way I tested it was by assigning int ntick = 0; and then increment the ++ntick; inside of the timer_tick method. The results didn't make any of the controls flash and were updated even every milisecond at some point. I also tried string.Format to put some load on the method. Is your app responsive?
The trick is to use double buffering. This way the operating system will redraw the Control off-screen, and only show the control when it is fully redrawn.

I also use a timer and a concurrentQueue to avoid using Invoke to update the control from another thread. I also use a StringBuilder to prepare the string before putting it into the TextBox. StringBuilder is faster when building larger strings.
You can use ReadExisting() to read the whole data at a time.
You need to handle DataReceived Event of SerialPort

Thank you so much for the answers! I found a way to work around this issue:
Instead of replacing the contents of my textbox by rewriting the TextBox.Text property - which, as HenningNT implied, refreshes the control and causes the flickering - I'm now using the TextBox.AppendText method. Though, as I want to display only one line of data at a time, I use the textbox in multiline mode and the Environment.NewLine to jump to a new line before appending the text. As for the method of updating, I've gone back to using the timer because with the invoke method was crashing my application when I close the form, for some reason. Also, enabling double buffering didn't do me much good, although I guess I was doing it wrong... It still flickers a bit, but it's much better now :) I know this is not really a perfect solution (much more of a workaround), so I'll keep looking for it. If I find it, I'll be sure to update it here ;) My code:

I added a generic PauseKinect() to pause the Kinect. My pause will really only remove the event handler that updated the image

After posting an identical question on the Microsoft forum and talking to multiple Microsoft representatives they basically said the only way to do a "pause" is to enable/disable the streams (uncomment my comments). Without saying it straight forward its a bug in the SDK. They are going to talk to the people in the development team and try to fix the issue in future releases.

I'm beginner with C# and wp7 platform and I have some problem with good idea to get request from web service.
I made webservice in PHP (nusoap - WSDL) and everything is working fine in "normal" using.
Now I have ObservableCollection saved in IsolatedStorage with I load when Page is open (List of watched stacks exchange). Then I want to refresh data for every item from web service.
I don't know whether this is a good idea.

Like u see I use RX to call method client_GetLastValueCompleted add store result to auxiliary variable (StoredStock). Then refresh List in setList method, but that method is client_GetLastValueCompleted what is not soo good idea, becouse I need to run that method only when all of runned GetLastValueAsync in foreach is completed.
Second problem: becouse of async web service method StoredStock sometime have different order than App.ViewModel.Items .
Any good idea how to do that in right way?

You're really mixing up a number of ways to call web services and Rx. You really need to decide on a single way and stick to it.

You'll have to get the right method call names for your web service client, but the code should roughly be right. Let me know how you go.
I corrected the code above. Should have returned the query inside the Using call rather than assign it to values.
I corrected the call to FromAsyncPattern to use the correct method names and return type from the actual web service reference class sent via email.

If you're a beginner with C#, try to avoid RX for the time being. It is a cool technology, but if you use it without clear understanding of what is going on, it will bring more problems than solve.
Use a simple event, and when each async item arrives, locate and update the correspondent one in the stored list.
I am writing a toolbar for IE(6+). I have used the various sample bars from
codeproject.com (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/IE_toolbar.aspx), and have a toolbar that works, registers unregisters etc. What I want the toolbar to do is to highlight divs within an html page as the users' mouse moves over that div. So far the highlighting code works, but I would like to display the name of the div (if it exists) in a label on the toolbar (changing as the mouse moves etc).
I cannot for the life of me get this to happen and trying to debug it is a nightmare. As the assembly is hosted in IE, I suspect that I am causing an exception (in IE) by trying to update the text on the label from a thread that didn't create that control, but because that exception is happening in IE, I don't see it.
Is the solution to try to update the control in a thread-safe way using Invoke? If so how?

I can't really reproduce the issue (creating a test project for an IE toolbar is a tad too much work), but you can try this:
Add the following routine to a public static (extensions methods) class:
