I am a newbie to IT Field.
I have just finished a small web application using mvc in C#.net (Visual Studio 2012)
And I have used SQL Server Management studio 2008 to create database.
Now I want my site to be hosted on Server.
So, my questions are :
1) Should I copy my database(.mdf and .ldf) files to App_Data? If yes then how?
2) After the database issue is cleared how to deploy the web application and
put it on the server?
Can anyone suggest me a simple nice tutorial? Or can you give me just basic understanding?

One way of doing it is
Create a database in somee.com and deploy your database over there. You can access your database in somee.com from management studio
Get your ftp access from somee.com and publish your project over there from visual studio.
thats it..

Consider this thread http://forums.asp.net/t/1903127.aspx
there are lots of article written on how to accomplish this on codeproject

I'm looking for a standalone json-rpc server library for c#. I do already know ones that work with ASP.NET but couldn't find one that can be used as standalone.
The closes i could find was http://jsonrpc2.codeplex.com/ which is not actually standalone but works with ASP.Net.
Note: The project we are working on is standalone and we are also targeting mono framework which is the reason we are looking for a stand-alone json-rpc server.
Actually, https://github.com/Astn/JSON-RPC.NET
is a stand alone json rpc server. It just happens to have a plugin for ASP.net.
There is no dependency in ASP.net or IIS.
Check out the documentation on running a console server at that link you posted.
There is also a discussion there about hosting that server over raw sockets.
-- Edited url to github instead of codeplex --
SignalR matches those requirements:
http://signalr.net
Although its primary usage is for web, it is not required to run a web server: it can be run in a windows service or a standalone application.
Have you looked at PokeIn? It may suit your needs depending on your requirements.

Can someone suggest a good wiki for our dev team please.
I know this question has been asked before, and I've been looking at foswiki, it looks good but won't work well in our environment: asp.net / active directory / c# / IIS.
We're hoping to find one that works well in our typical windows environment: asp.net / sql server / iis / active directory NTLM authentication.
Any recommendations would be great, thanks.
ScrewTurn Wiki (It's what Chuck Norris uses)
If you have SharePoint, or if you can install SharePoint(Standard Edition will be enough), you can use SP's wiki sites which works on exactly the technologies that you have mentioned and will provide good OOB integration for your environment.

I am currently investigating open source .NET based solutions for an learning management system (LMS), but am hitting a huge wall. Most folks seem to recommend DotNetSCORM, but not only is their site down for maintenance, but code files I found for it from SourceForge and CodeProject seem to be for old alpha/beta builds.
What solutions do you all know of that are out there for LMS's that are both .NET and open source?
Thanks!
You could try http://www.similarsites.com (and similar sites).
Personally I wouldn't go for anything that's down for several days (at least since June 20 according to google cache)
Take a look at SharePoint LMS project http://www.sharepointlms.com/
I think it's the most powerful LMS build with .NET
SharePoint LMS is a fully functional LMS based on the Microsoft SharePoint platform. LMS combines most powerful eLearning tools and features such as:
Learning Path Tracking
Reports SCORM 1.2 or 2004 compliance AICC compliance
Collaborative tools

Is there any open source .NET-based (no Win32 native, ActiveX, COM+ etc) library so I will can easily set up a ftp server? It is going to be a ftp server that will update a SQL Server database, and not regular files.
Thank you.
I think it is worth mentioning the Lumisoft.NET library which contains an FTP server component. I haven't used it myself but it appears to meet your requirements (100% managed FTP server library). As a bonus it is free for private and commercial use (similar to LGPL).
I am attempting to do a similar thing (FTP server getting files and folder structure from SQL database). I've been using darwen's FTP server on Code Guru.
It does have some problems, notably cross threading issues, but with a little work these can be fixed. Also of note is to check that it uses the correct format for the IP addresses.
I have found this works for connections from FileZilla, but as yet I haven't been able to connect to it directly from windows explorer. I have been unable to find anything better for free.
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/AdvancedFTPServer.aspx is very good
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xfftp/
For my FTP needs I use edtFTP.
Also, something you might want to look at is FTPLib.
Both are free and .NET

Could anyone recommend me a good open source .Net based wiki project? Better with successful deployment and user experience, and have a good community to support. :-)
Thanks!

Screwturn wiki- http://www.screwturn.eu/ is what I currently use successfully.
DekiWiki
Runs even on Mono. The MonoDevelop site runs on it.
Roadkill .NET Wiki engine:
Free, open source (Ms-PL)
Wizard-based installer
Supports Creole, Markdown and Media Wiki syntax
Both database and Active Directory security by default
Very easy to theme: comes with a mediawiki theme by default
Comes with a screw-turn importer
Also works with Mono on Ubuntu
And its technologies:
.NET 4 (sorry 2.0/3.5 people!)
LightSpeed ORM - works with SQL Server, Sqlite, Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB
ASP.NET MVC 3/razor
JQuery
Lucene.net
