Linq to SQL Query with fk - c#

I try to realize this query from T-SQL in Linq to SQL:
Select * from RPG r
join RPGPlayer e on r.RPGID = e.RPGID
join [User] i on e.UserID = i.UserID
where i.Username like '%Dunkel%'
The result is correct for 2 Rows on SQL-Query itself.
I try this:
rpgList.Where(y => y.RPGPlayers == y.RPGPlayers.Where(e => e.User.Username.Contains(player))).ToList();
(rpgList is a list of the complete table loaded before)

Not entirely sure regarding the question, but the following is my attempt to represent the SQL join statement in LINQ …
from r in RPG
join e in RPGPlayer on r.RPGID equals e.RPGID
join i in User on e.UserID equals i.UserID
where i.Username.Contains("Dunkel")

I have write this code into c# but this code not provide proper result. Now I don't know what is problem into this code. If I run this code into sql server, then I get proper result, but in c# code I don't get proper result.
It's been a long time since I wrote a query in LINQ, but I seem to recall that if you wish to model a LEFT JOIN, you have to use DefaultIfEmpty(), otherwise you end up with an INNER JOIN.
See this, it's answer shows where to apply DefaultIfEmpty:

Obviously if you don't correctly model a LEFT JOIN expression, you'll end up with results only when all 3 inputs produce values.
I would also suggest not using .ToList() on each of your source queries, because that's going to manifest data into memory and use LINQ to Objects for your final query. If you remove the .ToList(), LINQ will construct a single database query for the entire process.

Multiple table join with multiple table where clause

I have a query that's something like this.
Select a.*
from table1 a
inner join table2 b on a.field1 = b.field1
inner join table3 c on b.field2 = c.field2
where b.field4 = beta and c.field5 = gamma.
On LINQ, I tried to do that this way:
var query = (from a in table1
join b in table2 on a["field1"] equals b["field1"]
join c in table3 on b["field2"] equals c["field2"]
where (b["field4"] == beta && c["field5"] == gamma)
select a).ToList();
But for some reason, when I try to do this I get an error that says that the entity "table2" doesn't have the field Name = "field5", as though as the where clause was all about the last joined table and the other ones were unaccessible. Furthermore, the compiler doesn't seem to notice neither, because it lets me write c["field5"] == gamma with no warning.
Any ideas? Am I writing this wrong?

Try this, it's better that you use a join in this instance, instead of a sub-query:
var results = (from a in daps_user_activity
join u in daps_portaluser on a.Userid equals u.Userid
where u.EMR_ID == 24855
select a).ToList()
Alternatively, you could use this:
var results = (from a in daps_user_activity
from u in daps_portaluser
where u.EMR_ID == 24855
&& a.Userid == u.Userid
select a).ToList()
To me, it shows more clearly the main query and the subquery.

LINQ-Entities i have so far:

But the compiler is complaining on the join keyword about not being able to infer the type arguments.

I don't think you can join a SQL table with an in-memory list of objects, even if those objects are originally from the database.
Convert the in-memory list of objects to a list of id's (integer), and use that in the join or in a Contains/sub-select. EF can translate the list of id's to parameters when generating the SQL.
The problem with your join is that you're implying a collection of LocationId (t.Locations.Select(l => l.LocationId) can equal a single LocationId. You're trying to join a Theme which has a collection of Locations onto a single Location.
You should be able to fix this by using Contains
var themes = (from t in db.Themes
join q in postLocations
on t.Locations.Select(l => l.LocationId).Contains(q.LocationId)
select t).ToList();
or if EF complains about passing a postLocations as a parameter, you can try
// I'd materialize this but you may not have to
var postLocationIds = postLocations.Select(p => p.LocationId).ToList();
var themes = db.Themes.Where(t => t.Locations.Any(l =>
postLocationIds.Contains(l.LocationId))).ToList();

linq to sql Distinct and orderby

var result = table1.Join(table2, o => o.ProgramID, t => t.ProgramID, (o, t) => new { o.ProgramID, t.Program })

the above linq statement actually returns the correct result, but he sql generated (below) is not as simple as it could be

INNER JOIN [table2] AS [t1] ON [t0].[ProgramID] = [t1].[ProgramID]

I would have thought the sql below is far cleaner but I'm not sure of the linq statement to achieve it.

I don't know if it will help, but you can try something like this;
var result = (from o in table1
join t in table2 on o.ProgramID equals t.ProgramID
orderby t.Program
select new { o.ProgramID, t.Program }).Distinct();
I tried this and that works:
var result = (from o in table1
join t in table2 on o.ProgramID equals t.ProgramID
select new { o.ProgramID, t.Program })
.Distinct().OrderBy(t => t.Program)
.ThenBy(t => t.ProgramName)
.ThenBy(t => t.Description);
First you do Distinct and then OrderBy, then OrderBy works.
Profile the two queries, comparing stats-IO and the actual execution plan. It is entirely possible that it makes zero difference to the SQL server.
If you really want known TSQL, use ExecuteQuery-of-T and pass in the TSQL yourself. Maybe include some lock hints too (most commonly: NOLOCK)
