I am a seasoned Visual Studios 2010 Windows Phone Developer and I have used ads in many of my apps. I recently upgraded to Visual Studios 2012 and can't find the ad controls in the tool box? The proper library references are there and loaded however there is no actual controls in the tool box to add to the canvas.
I tried installing the pub center ad control that is offered here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8729 but it says that a later version is already installed on this machine and that it wont work.
So what am I missing?
Google results only in one article that relates and it is left open ended.

Almost as soon as I asked this I realized the answer. I am posting it here so there is some sort of documentation for the future. Please don't delete.
Right click in tool box
Click Choose Items
Check Ad controls
Hit Ok
Hope this helps in the future.

I am brand new to asking questions in SO and I do not really know if this question is meant to be asked here but here i am asking anyways.
I will cut to the chase now.
I am using VS 2019 Community and whenever I install for example .NET for C# development , my C++ disappears and I need to reinstall the whole Desktop Development with C++ package and when that gets done , the .NET development package disappears and needs to be reinstalled to be used again.
Does anyone have an idea on why that happens and how it can be fixed?
Hi and welcome to Stack Overflow. RUn your installer and select modify if you've already got it installed.
You'll arrive at a screen like this (this uses my VS 2019 Preview installation which doesn't have a lot selected.)
When you have arrived at this page, select the workload you want, in this case "Desktop Development with C++". It will show you how much space will be required. On the right, you'll see it show you the details of what it will install, and you can add/remove any specific SDK versions that you may want right there.
The space required will update to reflect your changes and then once you're done. In this case, I selected Windows SDK version 17763 (I only had one other selected on this device).
After this you'll have everything you had before, and the new workload that you have just installed.
I am coming from android studio and am really missing the preview feature when editting XML code.
The Xamarin website says this:
https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/xamarin-forms/xaml/xaml-previewer/
I find it essential to use the XML preview because I am still a beginner and learning.
Is there any way this can be done? Perhaps any third party apps if they exist?
Thanks In advance
There some alternatives to Xamarin's own XAML previewers, but it is unclear whether those third parter alternatives would support XAML themes.
Gorilla Player
enter image description here
This one is particularly good for previewing the XAML live simultaneously across multiple platform. I think its available on windows but the level of integration with visual studio remains unclear. However, as their download page contains link for windows, it should support it.
You can access it from this link:
http://gorillaplayer.com
XenForms
XenForms is another promising Xamarin.Forms. You can Load, Edit, and Save XAML. This is the first WYSIWYG UI designer for Xamarin.Forms. This tool definitely support windows as a developing platform and windows phones. Unfortunately, it does NOT support drag and drop. Another great feature is that is it has some support for c# user interface as well as the XAML markups.www.xenforms.com
You can check Xamarin's own previewer which is integrated with Visual Studio. Please update your xamarin to latest installation. You may also need to rebuild the solution and then open/reopen the XAML file for preview. For details please check my blog post here.
Currently we are using VSTS 2010 premium for our coded ui test automation. Also we used IE-8 initially for our execution. Now we are planning to migrate to windows 8 OS and hence we upgraded IE-8 to IE-11. After upgrading to IE-11, we are facing some problems like,
1. While trying to locate the captured control, coded-ui throws error as "The control cannot be located. Unable to find Windows Internet Explorer window with 'Application name - Internet Explorer - Windows Internet Explorer' in the title." But if we close visual studio and then try after sometime, its working but its taking longer time to locate a single control.
2. Also, during execution, entering values in edit box is working fine but, finally application hangs while coded-ui tries to perform button click action like clicking submit button.
Thanks in advance.
When I looked into this I could not find a way of un-hiding these elements such as hovering over the parent. Research suggested a Security update in IE caused the tests to stop working. Options for a work around in the order best to worst:
Use the Selenium add on with support for the newer browsers. Other benefits including cross browser testing with Chrome and Firefox.
Update the Visual Studios test project to a newer version. You could try this out with a Visual Studios Community Edition
Go back to IE 8 - not ideal as the % of users
still with IE 8 is minimal. I would recommend a VM (Virtual Machine ) if you go down
the 2nd or 3rd path.
Remove security updates for IE 11 - As you probably are
aware this presents a significant security issue and you need to mitigate associated risks. Disable auto update through Internet options -> About Internet Explorer -> uncheck install new versions automatically
Its Not a Programming Question But about Visual studio express 2012.
Trying to create a new report in the visual studio 2012 but can not see the list of data sets, parameters etc: In general tab i am seeing this
"There are no usable controls in this group. Drag an item onto this text to add it to the toolbox"
I have searched to fixed it but not succeeded till now..
I came across this same issue today and read plenty of things such as "this is VS bug...." but the solution was much simpler than that, I just needed to stop debugging (Shift+F5).
If that doesn't work, I recommend restarting the IDE.
If this doesn't work, I guess that uninstalling VS and doing a fresh installation is the answer you're looking for. It's important to note that it's recommended to restart Windows after installing VS and before launching it.
Right click on the Toolbox and press "Show All"
Right click on Toolbox, Click on "choose Items.". Restart IDE. That worked for me.
Right click on Toolbar and select: Reset Toolbox.
MFC controls will reappear.
I also had this problem, and it turned out I was trying to open the wrong toolbox: what I was actually looking for was the 'SSIS toolbox'. If none of the other options have worked, try selecting View -> Other Windows -> SSIS Toolbox. That fixed it for me.
[I found this out from this blog by James Serra]
In VS 2015, the SSIS Toolbox is under SSIS tab, not under View.
"There are no usable controls..." is shown when you have currently opened a file that is not designer file (e.g. "Form1.cs"). Once you open the designer file (e.g. "Form1.Designer.cs") the items should be shown again.
Just hover over the design and then press escape. A control that you had selected and not dropped is holding up memory.
This happened to me, and it was because I was currently debugging. Once I ended debugging, the usable controls appeared.
This is my second post on this topic as the first post I got no help with. I don't know if anyone knows how to help me, but I have searched and searched and I cannot figure out how to fix this problem that I have been trying to overcome for 4 days now. I have made a simple web browser that needs to load iCloud.com when a button is pressed. When I try to load the page, it tells me the web browser is not supported. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and I am programming it in C#. I have everything fully updated and I have also tried to use different browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer. I can load this page outside of VS with all of these browsers, but inside VS it will not work. My program can load every other page I throw at it except iCloud.com. If I try and load YouTube.com I get this: ("You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 web browser. YouTube is ending support for Internet Explorer 7 soon, update your browser now.") I don't know how to change the browser version inside of VS. Can anyone point me in a direction that will help me? Thank you for your time!
I asked over at the microsoft visual studio forums if the browser control was updated and got no answer.
I'm using VS2010 Pro, have used VS2011 preview and VS2012 RC. There is no updated browser control in any of them, all report as IE7.
I would look for an alternative solution.
A few are listed here on SO vb 2008 webbrowser alternative
Many also recommend Awesomium
If you must use the visual studio control I found some interesting discussion
here but it requires modifying the registry and specific system IE browsers.
