WPF: Button single click + double click problem
WPF/MVVM - how to handle double-click on TreeViewItems in the ViewModel?
I need to to handle both the single click and the double click of a button in a WPF application with different reaction. On one click I only want to show that button has focus and on double click I want to show a new window(similar to Windows icon behavior). But on a doubleclick, WPF fires two clicks so it's hard to handle this situation. Can anyone help to solve this problem? Thanks for any help.
I tried this:
private static DispatcherTimer myClickWaitTimer =
new DispatcherTimer(
new TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 1),
DispatcherPriority.Background,
mouseWaitTimer_Tick,
Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher);
private void Button_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e)
{
// Stop the timer from ticking.
myClickWaitTimer.Stop();
Trace.WriteLine("Double Click");
e.Handled = true;
}
private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
myClickWaitTimer.Start();
}
private static void mouseWaitTimer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
myClickWaitTimer.Stop();
// Handle Single Click Actions
MainWindow c = new MainWindow()
c.focusButton.Background = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.DarkBlue);
}
but focusButton Bacground didnĀ“t change when I clicked on the focusButton.
Interesting question.
In my opinion, on the first step you have to handle Button_click in different ways as usual.
Maybe try to use some counter and timer?

My app is multi-window, here is quickly how it works:
In main window I have a list of items, when I click on one, it opens another window where I can modify it. When I close that window, I want main window to refresh its content. I've tried many event handlers including GotFocus() but it doesn't want to launch my method to refresh the list. Any advise?
If you want something to happen when the other window is closed, you can subscribe to its closed event. This will fire when the windows is closed.
private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
var wnd = new Window1();
wnd.Closed += wnd_Closed;
wnd.Show();
}
void wnd_Closed(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
MessageBox.Show("Closed");
}
I'm a beginner and having some dicciculties with XAML.
I have a main view A, which has a button to open a pop-up-window B. When this happens, Window A should still be visible and openened, but disabled. I've done this in code behind (maybe not the cleanest way, but the only way I know how). The code i used for this is the following:
//Code behind from view A
private void X-Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
var BWindow = new BView();
BWindow.Show();
this.IsEnabled = false;
}
I would like to get window A enabled again once i close window B, but i can t seem to get this work. Any help would be very much appreciated.
You could do it in the following way.
You register yourself on the Closed event of the window, and when it gets closed, you unregister the event, and re-enable the this form.
private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
Window BWindow = new BWindow();
BWindow.Show();
BWindow.Closed += BWindow_Closed;
this.IsEnabled = false;
}
void BWindow_Closed(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Window win = sender as Window;
if (win != null)
{
win.Closed -= BWindow_Closed;
}
this.IsEnabled = true;
}
I assume you are looking for modal window. See similar question asked here: How do make modal dialog in WPF?
The solution is in using ShowDialog method from Window class. See here for reference:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.window.showdialog.aspx
Modal window is the concept when you open new window B from the existing window A. While the B is open, the A is disabled and cannot be used. Window A become active only when the B is closed.
I have an application in WPF and one button. In this buttun I want the click event that implement a code, but I want that when the do double click with the mouse, execute other code but not the code of the click event.
The problem is that the code of the click event is always executed and I don't know if there is a way to avoid the execution of the click event when I do doulbe click.
I am follow the MVVM pattern and I use MVVM light to convert the event into a command.
Thanks.
On the click event, you can check the amount of clicks in the EventArgs, for example;
private void RightClickDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e)
{
if (e.ClickCount == 1)
{
//do single click work here.
}
if (e.ClickCount == 2)
{
//do double click work.
}
}
This means you can differentiate between single and double clicks manually, if that's what you desire.
Set the RoutedEvent's e.Handled to True after handling the MouseDoubleClick event to block second click events of being fired.
If you want to block first click event behavior, you can use a timer:
private static DispatcherTimer myClickWaitTimer =
new DispatcherTimer(
new TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 0, 250),
DispatcherPriority.Normal,
mouseWaitTimer_Tick,
Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher) { IsEnabled = false };
private void Button_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e)
{
// Stop the timer from ticking.
myClickWaitTimer.Stop();
Trace.WriteLine("Double Click");
e.Handled = true;
}
private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
myClickWaitTimer.Start();
}
private static void mouseWaitTimer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
myClickWaitTimer.Stop();
// Handle Single Click Actions
Trace.WriteLine("Single Click");
}
Here is a nice explanation on how to distinguish between clicks and double clicks. And it gives you 2 example on how you can achieve that.
I shared this solution, that is a mix between the two others solutions. I can't give the accepted solution to both, sorry.
If I use the PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown to control when is single click or double click works, instead of using two events (click and doubleclick).
So I solve the problem with this code:
This first method control the click with the mouse.
private void MouseLeftButtonDownCommand(MouseButtonEventArgs e)
{
if (e.ClickCount == 1)
{
_dtMouseClick.Start();
}
else if(e.ClickCount > 1)
{
_dtMouseClick.Stop();
//the code of the double click
}
}
This method is the method that is linked to the DispatcherTimer, that is execute if is not stopped with the second click of the mouse.
private void MouseClick_Tick(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
_dtrMouseClick.Stop();
//code of the single click
}
The dispatcherTimer is create in the constructor of the view model
_dtBotonBuscarMouseClick =
new System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherTimer(
new TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 0, 250),
System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherPriority.Background,
MouseClick_Tick,
System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher);
_dtMouseClick.Stop();
The interval is 250ms that is the interval that is the time that the user has to double click.
In this solution, I use the same way to stop the dispatcherTimer, the stop() method, but for some reason if I use the two events (click and mouseDoubleClick) the dispatcherTimer is not stopped in the double click and if I use the MouseLeftButtonDown event the solution works.
I am hoping someone here can help me, i have a Tabless Control on my windows forms application and basically because the tabs are purposely hidden i have added 2 buttons to each tab "Next" and "Back".
This is the code snippet i have for my "Next" button:
private void nextbutton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
tabControl1.SelectedTab = tabPage3;
this.toolStripStatusLabel8.Text = System.DateTime.Now.ToString();
}
Which works fine, however when i use the exact same theory on the "Back" button it does not work:
private void backbutton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
tabControl1.SelectedTab = tabmain;
this.toolStripStatusLabel1.Text = System.DateTime.Now.ToString();
}
So my question is how does one go to a previous tabpage from a button? I have looked through here and tried all of the links that came up but nothing has worked any ideas?
You should use the SelectedIndex property instead of using concrete TabPage instances. This way it will still work when you decide to change the order of the pab pages or add new pages:
private void previousButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (tabControl1.SelectedIndex > 0)
{
tabControl1.SelectedIndex--;
}
}
private void nextButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (tabControl1.SelectedIndex < tabControl1.TabCount - 1)
{
tabControl1.SelectedIndex++;
}
}
Since there is no "Tabless" tab control in .NET Framework I can only assume that it works similar to the standard TabControl. If the solution doesn't work you should give us some information about the actual class you use.
BTW: There is no need to repeat the buttons on each page. Why don't you just put the buttons outside the TabControl?
Also: I see that you use a ToolStripStatusLabel to show the current time. Instead of updating it each time the user clicks somewhere add a Timer to your form. Set its Interval to 1000 and handle its Tick event. Update the label there:
private void timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
toolStripStatusLabel1.Text = DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString();
}
This way it updates constantly and again there is no need to repeat anything. You need to call timer1.Start() in the form's constructor.
I am new to C# and I want to design a GUI for a image processing application in c#. I have a very basic rudimentary layout designed as shown below
Here, the image plane is fixed and it will show a live stream video. I have designed all the buttons frame and the side panel. But I do not know how to dynamically change the side panel for each button I click. For example, If I click button1_1, I want some things in the side panel and for button1_2, some other things in it. How do I go about doing it.
EDIT:
Thanks for the answers. I see tab controls is an option. But I want a new panel evertime a click a button. which can further open forms. Is it possible?
OK, let's see. It's easy to do with "TabControl" or array of "Panel"s.
1.Do it with TabControl.
You can design GUI in TabControl in multiple subTabs(if you don't know how please ask.). Then you change it in button click event, to make subTab you wanna show(which means make it visiable and not visiable for other subTabs.)
2.Do it with array of panel.
You can use panel[] panels. In button click event, you hide other panels and show the one you want.
Hope answer helps you!
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
tabControl1.SelectedIndex = 0;
tabControl1.TabPages[0].Text = "First";
}
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
tabControl1.SelectedIndex = 1;
}
private void button3_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
tabControl1.SelectedIndex = 2;
}
you may want to add split container in your form.
Create UserControl for each buttons.
Code for the button click event
//Button1Click Event
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
UserControl1 m_UserControl = new UserControl1();
splitContainer1.Panel2.Controls.Clear();
splitContainer1.Panel2.Controls.Add(m_UserControl);
}
//Button2Click Event
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
UserControl2 m_Usercontrol2 = new UserControl2();
splitContainer1.Panel2.Controls.Clear();
splitContainer1.Panel2.Controls.Add(m_Usercontrol2);
}
you can do this if you want to change what usercontrol display in a panel at run time.
Correct me if i misunderstood your question.
In WinForms, you could use a tab control and just change the selected tabs index when a button is pressed. More specifically, when its click event is fired. Here is a good tutorial on using the TabControl and here is a tutorial on wiring up click events.
EDIT:
This is a better tutorial.
Since you can't hide the tabs of a tabcontrol without using WPF, you may need to use something else, if you don't like the way they look. A good workaround if you only have a couple of buttons and thus views, would be to use panels. When button one is clicked show panel one and hide panel two, etc. Here would be the code:
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
pane2.visible = false;
pane1.visible = true;
}
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
pane1.visible = false;
pane2.visible = true;
}
Hope this helps you!
