I'm using a repeater to dynamically add labels to an asp.net page, but the text is stacking vertically for some reason. Anyone know why this happens?

I'm trying to add labels to a page dynamically using the above repeater, but when they are added it stacks vertically. Anyone ever encounter this before?

You are adding a line break after each label (br tag). Was that intended?
Remember that for each item in your data set it will write out that whole statement between the tags.
Maybe try writing out the html manually until you get it how you like and then put it into the item template.

Found the problem, the DataSource and DataBind() were in a loop so it was adding one letter at a time. Once I moved them out, it works fine.

How to display dynamically generated images in asp.net gridview?

I have a class (POCO) that has an Image property. I use a List<> of this class as the datasource for a gridview control. Most of the properties are grabbed from the database. However, I am dynamically generating a barcode (System.Drawing.Image) in my code behind and populating the Image property in the POCO with the result prior to databinding. It is NOT possible for me to store the images on the database or the filesystem. How do I go about displaying the barcodes in the Gridview control? When I try, nothing shows and the images generate 404 errors. The code for the gridview is:

I had a similar issue when generating pie charts using another 3rd party project.
What I did was the following:
Keep the Image Tag in your Grid.
Set that Image Tag to call an ASPX Page in your site, passing what ever params you need on the URL to generate the barcode image.
In that new ASPX do the following
response.clear()
response.binarywrite() of the image.
If you browse that URL you will see the image in the browser, which means, that URL would also show the image in your Image Tag in your grid.

Hyperlink in Gridview which is autogenerated in C#

I have a Gridview which is autogenerated by fetching data from various tables.
Now my requirement is i need to make my first column as hyperlink so that if it is clicked then it has to navigate to another page with hyperlinked value.
In the second page i have Lable this label should show the hyperlink value and based on that the data will be populated on the second page.
For example:
I have a gridview with 10 columns..My first column is Emp Id.
If that id is clicked it has to take me to second page and the label control must get this id value and based on that id the rest of the info like emp name emp DOB should be filled.
i am using C# as my code behind.
Can anyone help me to proceed..

You need the <asp:HyperLinkField />
<asp:GridView>

You might need to remove the AutoGenerateColumns="true" property and type the fields yourself, selecting only the columns you want to show - using <asp:BoundFied DataField="ColumnName" />
In case you want to pass multiple values in the querystring, separate the fields with comma
DataNavigateUrlFields="YourID, SecondField"
and your format string would be
DataNavigateUrlFormatString="SecondPage.aspx?Id={0}&param2={1}"

You can use a TemplateField column in your GridView:

On the Details.aspx page you should get the empId from the QueryString and get the details from the database.

GridView Row Number using Markup (only)

I have a requirement to display row number in grid view. What is the best way to display the row number using BoundField or TemplateField?
Note: This need to be done using markup only (without code behind).
Note: When sorting happens, the row number should not be in sequence, the first row should go down with its content.

The BoundField displays the value of specified DataSource field as text.
The TemplateField allows to mix html or make use of web controls.

The gridview is rendered as html table. If you don't want to calculate the row number in code behind, you should use JQuery.
var rowCount = $('#myTable tr').length;
And you should fill the table footer with rowCount value.

Working with GridView and ItemTemplates (ASP.net/C#)

I have a GridView that is populated via a database, inside the GridView tags I have:

Now, I want to be able to (in the code) apply a width attribute to the "bar" panel for each row that is generated. How would I go about targeting those rows? The width attribute would be unique to each row depending on a value in the database for that row.

If you like, you can change Eval("Width") to the expression that calculates the width.

You are going to want to handle the GridView's RowCreated event. This occurs just after the GridView creates each row and will give you programmatic access to the row and all the controls contained within it.

I suggest you to not use Eval, if you can, because it's a little slower. In that cases I generally prefer to cast my data source to his base type:

This method is really faster than Eval.
Edit: oh, don't forget to include in the page a reference to the namespace that contains yourCustomData

I suggest you attach a callback handler to the OnRowDataBound event. Each row binding will fire an event which you can handle in your callback handler.
In that callback handler, you can get the info about the item being bound to the row and apply the width according to the values in your database.
