with my C# app, can I fix this problem copying this .dll into windows/system32 folder?
Or exists another method to do this?
This links below point to the proper downloads for the MSVCRT100 installer. This is likely what you want your customers to run before installing your app. This will properly install the MSVCRT DLLs in the proper directory such that all applications can use it.

If you actually want to install the MSVCRT100 DLLs through a merge module within your own MSI - you can link your MSI to the MSMs that are located in the x86 version your "c:\program files\common files\merge modules" directory" (Assuming you have Visual Studio 2010 installed).

Two other alternatives:
Instead of copying MSVCRT100.dll into a system directory, copy it into the directory of the EXE app you are trying to launch that depends on this DLL. This isn't recommended, but won't run the risk of breaking other apps.
Another alternative. If you actually have the source code to the EXE that you are trying to launch, you can completely bypass all of this "install msvcrt100.dll" noise by just statically linking to it. In visual studio, it's the option in the project's propery dialog under C/C++ (under the Code Generation tab). Change "runtime library" from "Multi-threaded Dll" to just "Multi-threaded". This adds the /MT compiler switch.
Whatever program you're trying to start has to be properly installed first. Msvcr100.dll is one of the DLLs that need to be deployed for programs written in C or C++ with VS2010. It is simple with a Setup and Deployment project or by building the program with the /MT option. Contact the program owner for support.
what is missing is the Visual C++ runtime.
are you starting a C++ application from your C# code? if so, make sure the proper runtime is available on the client machines.
You should be able to fix this by copying it and registering it (with command line: regsvr32 "DLLNAME") or you can ship it with your executable and it should work

I have a perfectly working windows forms C# .NET 4 application that uses a SQLite3 database file to store data and display forms.
When I deploy my app on any machine other then the dev machine, I get an exception thrown and it's message is "Could not load assembly System.Data.SQLite.dll or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found."
The System.Data.SQLite.dll reference in the project is set to Copy Local = True. Also, I tried manually loading the assembly with Assembly.LoadFile. The dll is placed in the output directory. I also tried setting the platform target to Any CPU as well as x86, no difference. All machines I am working with are 32-bit. What is the issue here? Why is my application trying to load the assembly and can't find it?

I had the same problem after publishing my program to a separate computer. Installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) on the separate computer fixed the problem.
Note: the separate computer already had Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) installed, the x86 version was needed.
'System.Data.SQLite.dll" requires "msvcr100.dll" which is one of it's Dependencies. This will be available only if you installed latest "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable" or any other product which internally provides this.
For example, VS2010 will install C++ Redistributable by default. Thats the reason your application doesnot works in some machine but works in others.
You could try pasting the "msvcr100.dll" in your application bin folder and distribute if you dont want to install VC++ 2010 Redist in all the PC's.
Some of the System.Data.Sqlite.dll modules depend on the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package" .

The answers already given didn't solve my problem. I tried to deploy to a VMware server. The solution that did help where given here: http://sqlite.1065341.n5.nabble.com/System-Data-SQLite-Deployment-Mystery-td71752.html Two methods are described there.
When i install this sqlite-netFx45-setup-bundle-x86-2012-1.0.88.0.exe, my app is able to find the right dll.
The second method is to add the dll to de app.exe.config in the debug or release dir. If you edit this file directly, there is a change VC will overwrite the file.
My main problem was that i installed the sqlite package manually. I didn't use NuGet, because i'm behind a proxy. If you do use Nuget, the information in the app.exe.config will be provided automatically.

I have developed an application using C# (Visual Studio) which runs without issue on my Windows 10 development PC. However, when I copy the application to its intended target PC and run it (Server 2012 R2), I get an exception informing me that a file or assembly could not be loaded: Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo, Version=13.100.0.0.
If I copy version 13 of the dll to the program directory of the target PC and run the app, I then get an exception informing me that it cannot find version 14 of the dll. Copying version 14 to the target then give me the original exception, and so on.
I have references to all the required dlls in the application, namely:
Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll (the one which is giving me
the issue). Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlClrProvider.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum.dll Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll
All are set as: specific version = false.
All of the necessary frameworks are installed on the server. Additionally, the following is also installed on the server, which the program interacts with:
• ColdFusion
• SQL Server 2012 (and 2008 but this instance is not used by the program)
The .exe is installed via an installer and that installation includes the necessary dlls, which are installed in the same directory as the exe.
Full permissions are available on the directory, and the program itself has the highest access level.
The connection string is selectable by the user and defaults to the correct one, depending on where the program is installed.
Does anyone have any ideas which may help me to resolve this conflict?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The version number of Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll shown within Visual Studio is 13.100.0.0. I copied the DLL from the path shown in properties, to the program directory. Guess what? When I ran the program an exception informed me that it could not find version 14.100.0.0!
This is the version of the same DLL as shown on the file's Properties page: 13.0.16106.4.
SMO is always installed in the GAC, so it doesn't matter what files you copy to your /bin folder. GAC'd assemblies override local ones.
You have referenced the SQL 2016 version of SMO. So you must either install that on your target server, or build you project against the version of SMO already present on the target server.

Note that because of the hassles with loading and deploying SMO, and SMO's really old API style, it's often better to have your app perform SQL Server administration with just TSQL and System.Data.SqlClient.

Dumbassary was afoot.
I removed all the references from the Visual Studio project, re-added them and it worked.
The issue was caused by a DLL reference which was pointing to the program's installation directory and not to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\130\SDK\Assemblies. As the Properties box was not fully expanded, I failed to notice it.
Hopefully, someone else can benefit from my experience.

I have wrote a program HelloApp with Matlab and packaged it as .NET Assembly using deploytool as described here. As a result I have got helloapp.dll library, which I included into my Visual Studio 2015 as a reference, so I can run Matlab methods directly from C#. To run the code without Matlab installed, the end user needs Matlab Runtime (MCR) installed at least.
Now I want to create an installer for my C# program. I have came across Visual Studio 2015 Installer Projects which provides some tools to create program setup wizard. The problem is, I don't know how to include download and setup of MCR package as a step in installation process to ensure the user has all the required prerequisites in order for program to run.
Well this is not really an answer, but comment area in question was too short ...
I don't know much about VS2015 Installer as I personnally use innosetup. Anyway to check if runtime is installed on target machine you can look if following key exists in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MathWorks\MATLAB Runtime\9.0

NB1: Note that installer for Matlab runtime is very large (about 1 GB). I would not package it with application to deploy, but just warn the user to install it separately.
NB2: I think Mathworks is packaging C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2015b\toolbox\compiler\deploy\win64\InstallAgent.zip (~66MB) rather than MCRInstall.exe (~1GB) when deploying standalone installer with deploytool for downloading the runtime during install but I don't know how it works.
I have a C# application that uses AutoItX for automation. This application works fine in my Windows 8.1 x64 environment compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 release 3.
I pushed a copy of the app code to a bitbucket repository and cloned it to a computer running Windows 7 x64. AutoItX version 3.14.2 was installed and the 32bit calls were selected. The application was compiled using Visual Studio 2013 release 4.
The app compiled fine, but the first use of the AutoIt functions resulted in an error:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.DllNotFoundException' occurred in AutoItX3.Assembly.dll
I tried the following steps. The app was tested after each of these steps
Attempted to register the .dll manually using regsrv32
regsrv32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoItX\AutoItX3.dll"
Uninstalled VisualStudio 2013 R4 and attempted to reinstall VisualStudio 2013 R3 {The installation of R3 failed because it required internet explorer version 10 and version 11 has already been installed on this computer} so R4 was reinstalled
Uninstalled AutoIt and reinstalled selecting the 64 bit library preference. Compiled the app with x64 Platform option
Uninstalled AutoIt and reinstalled using the 32 bit library preference
Compiled the app with the X86 Platform option
Manually copied AutoItX3.dll to the C:\windows\System32 directory
Manually copied AutoItX3_x64.dll to the c:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory. Compiled the app for x64 platform
Wiped computer clean and reinstalled windows 7, AutoIt (32 bit preference), Visual Studio 2013 R4
Installed AutoIt v14
Installed the beta version of AutoIt v15
Performed a Windows update - 213 updates (!) installed
Installed Internet Explorer v11
Performed a Windows update - 4 updates installed
Installed AutoIt version 3.10.2 that worked on the Windows 8 system
I would appreciate suggestions on what to try next. I'm probably missing something very basic, but I just can't find a solution

That's the only thing you did wrong, you reversed the copies. There are no other DLLs you could be missing, the AutoItX3.dll and AutoItX3_x64.dll files themselves have no other dependencies that are not already available on any Windows machine. Just operating system DLLs, they've been around forever. Something you can see with Dumpbin.exe /imports.
And the exception message comes out of .NET, it is caused by a [DllImport] attribute. You can see the content of AutoItX3.Assembly.dll with a decompiler like ILSpy or Reflector. There is very little to it, only two DLLs are ever used. AutoItX3.dll for 32-bit code and AutoIt_x64.dll for 64-bit code.
Fairly tragic btw, otherwise a side-effect of ab/using the operating system directories for non-operating system DLLs. The only real way to make sense of why this is backwards is to know the history of Windows.
Back in the early days of Windows when it was still a 16-bit operating system (versions 1 through 3.11), c:\windows\system was the home directory for the operating system executables. Starting with NT 3.11 and Windows 95, the first 32-bit versions, that directory was renamed to c:\windows\system32. When the 64-bit version became available, Microsoft could not rename it to c:\windows\system64 anymore. Too many programs hard-coded the name of that directory in their source code. Breaking those programs would have been a good idea, just not a good strategy to get customers to move to the next version.
The 64-bit version has an emulator that can run 32-bit programs, it is called WOW64. "Windows on 64-bit Windows". The c:\windows\syswow64 directory is therefore the home directory of the 32-bit executables.
Exactly backwards from what the names would suggest. Just reverse the copies and that runtime error will disappear.
Generic advice applies:
The official way to get the loader to tell you about missing DLLs is to enable loader snaps. It is the most reliable way, albeit a bit clumsy.
Dependency Walker has not been maintained for a very long time and produces far too many false warnings. It also has a problem with .NET programs like this, it cannot see the dependency on AutoItX3.dll. You should still get something out of it when you use its Profile mode.
Process Monitor was always the best tool to troubleshoot missing DLLs. You'll see your program searching for the missing DLL, you can tell its name and the directories it looks in from the trace. Start near the bottom working backwards to avoid drowning in the data. I should however note that its been unreliable lately on the machine I use since ~Win81, the trace is just missing stuff I know should have been there. YMMV.
Such an issue can be caused by a missing DLL or a dependency of a missing DLL. I never got good results with Dependency Walker but I have successfully tracked down such issues with Process Monitor.
It should not be a 32/64 bit issue directly, since that would result in a BadImageFormatException instead.
You can debug missing DLL issues like this:
Start Process Monitor
Set a filter for your executable
Reproduce the issue (i.e. run your application)
Save the log in XML file format
Open the XML in Process Monitor Log Analyzer (Disclaimer: I'm the author of that free tool)
Check from top down which DLL is really missing. There may be some where the program can gracefully degrade, so not all of them are necessarily required.
Short solution
Copy and paste the AutoItX3.dll file to /bin/Debug or /bin/Release folder.
Project solution
What you can do is to put in the project's Post-build event command line:

I am using Visual Studio 2013/ISLE to create a C# program with a .msi install image. When I run install from VS the program is installed in the expected location, e.g. c:/Program Files (x86)/...
I'm sure that this is something simple but I can't figure it out. A pointers would be greatly appreciated.
When you run a 32-bit installer in x 64-bit system Windows will always redirect your installer writing to c:\Program Files to c:\program files (x86). If you want to install to the non-x86 folder you will need to provide a 64-bit installer for your application.
This blog post explains why Windows does this.
It looks like InstallShield LE will allow you to write to the correct folder when your project is set to AnyCPU, but for more advanced scenario's you'll need to use the Pro version or the free Wix installer.
I assume the question is why the installation MSI fails when you run it outside of Visual Studio, but works when VS launches it?
If yes, you should first check if your ISLE project is creating an MSI or an EXE bootstrapper (that also contains the MSI). If an EXE is created this is what you should launch manually, not the MSI. In theory, a bootstrapper can act like an initialization support for the MSI and specify default values for certain properties, like an installation folder, etc...
I say in theory because I am not very familiar with ISLE, I work with other setup authoring tools, thus cannot say for sure if this stands for ISE projects too.
