WPF position specific tooltip - c#

I have a Canvas that contains lots of DrawingVisuals (i.e. not FrameworkElements) and I'd like to present a tooltip as the mouse hovers over a given DrawingVisual. Not quite sure how to achieve this since a tooltip seems to be tied to a FrameworkElement.
I guess I need some way to assign 'tooltip hotspots' within a single FrameworkElement.

Windows store app, horizontal scrolling when too much text

I am making an app for the Windows store (xaml/c#), in this app i create a list of properties of a file. One properties is the file path, this is always too long. my solution would be to make this side scrolling when this textblock is selected.
the text would start to scroll when selected to make all the information readable. (ticker bar)
I can’t find a property to achieve this, and I find it difficult to make a custom function for this. Can you help me?
I'd reconsider the idea. I had the idea many times and it was always rejected by designers. I think animating text is likely to be more annoying than clipped text. A better way might be to either wrap it in place or if you are in a list with limited item height - only show the full text after it was tapped - either with some popup or in the details view of the tapped item.
Having said that - to animate it you'd put the TextBlock inside of a Canvas, set the Clip of the Canvas to a RectangleGeometry that defines your clipping region (and update it on size updates), then animate the Canvas.X property of the TextBlock. The problem with that is that Canvas.X is not an "independent" property and so you'd need to set DoubleAnimation.EnableDependentAnimation="true" on the animation and could still get a fairly choppy animation.
A better choice might seem to be to animate the RenderTransform of the TextBlock (e.g. set it to a TranslateTransform and target the X property of the transform in the animation), but last time I checked - this could animate the TextBlock in an already clipped form, so you still wouldn't see the part of it that doesn't fit on screen. You could try that though.
Putting the TextBlock in a ScrollViewer might work better, but it would suffer from similar problem as the Canvas solution since the ScrollViewer doesn't even have an animatable offset property. In Windows 8.1 you get built in animations when you call ScrollViewer.ChangeView(), but that would likely animate too quickly. It is possible with the help of a proxy dependency property or other per-frame dependent animation as in the ScrollToHorizontalOffsetWithAnimation() ScrollViewer extension method in WinRT XAML Toolkit.

How to make custom shaped panel in WPF?

I am facing a problem that have kind of already been asked here before, as far as I have seen.
I read most of these but didn't find the right answer.
This is what I need:
Complex shaped zone (i.e: countries, states..)
Having possibility to get events on it (especially mouse's)
Possibility to place some conrols in it (i.e: images, buttons)
I saw that some uses usercontrols, controltemplates.. But how should I do for that kind of shape ? Most of questions was for some basic mix of standard shapes.
(I saw with Blend that we can make path object with a pen, is there a way to use this to define the shape of a zone ?)

Create your own control and have its main container be a Canvas. Have the canvas background be transparent and then you can place all the controls you want on it. You can use a Polygon as your main shape inside the Canvas and place all the controls you want on the Canvas (but I guess for your purpose, you would want to make sure to not place them outside of the area covered by the polygon.
Let each object you use handle the mousedown event then you can individually drag them. When mousedown occurs, use the CaptureMouse() method on the object you clicked so that all dragging (on or off of the main window) will still be captured by the object you clicked. Make sure to call ReleaseMouse() in the mouseup event.
You can create as many instances of your control as you need. All with different shapes defined by the polygon each one contains. You can slap all of these objects on a single grid or canvas, and you're good to go.
You can use the PathPanel class that is provided in the Expression Blend SDK.

C# WinForms Move elements between panels

I need to create a form with two panels:
1. Destination
2. Source
On the source panel there will be picture boxes. I need to be able to move it from source to point at destination panel with mouse.
I have a problem connected with different coordinates of the panels.
Please, help with advice or an idea what to do.
Moving those controls requires changing their Parent property. That's not easy to do, there is no good time to do this while the user is dragging with the mouse. You'll also get the effect of the panel clipping the control, you cannot display it on both with half of the control on one and the other half on the other panel. And yes, you have to change the Location property of the control when you change the parent or it will jump.
Punt the problem, don't use two panels. It only has to look like a panel, easily done by drawing one in the form's Paint method (or OnPaint override, better). Use e.Graphics.DrawRectangle or FillRectangle.

What would you suggest for building such a control in WPF?

I need to build a WPF control that looks somehow similar to this:

Where each color should be clickable and resizable (or selectable).
This control will be used to set modes on the hours of a day.
I've thought about making 24 buttons that would be arranged in a circle:

Another idea was to draw a complete circle and calculate user mouse click's position for the selection and draw several circles to represent the data.
Any other/better ideas on how to build this?

I think you would get odd edge-effects with multiple overlapping or touching controls. So I would make a single custom control to do this. It would convert the mouse position on button down to a slice, and then do the appropriate action.
With a single control, you could also come up with a rational way of dealing with keyboard input and for showing selection and allowing for multi-select behavior.
It sounds like you want a customized ListBox (multiple items that are selectable/clickable). For the layout you would want to use some type of RadialPanel as the ItemsPanel. You probably also need to change the ItemContainerStyle to make your ListBoxItems look like what you have above, probably with some triggers to change colors based on selection state. Depending on what behavior you need from your items you may need to create custom ListBox/ListBoxItem derived custom controls but in a lot of cases the built-in behavior will get you a long way. To reuse it as a single unit you could wrap up the ListBox with its 24 hour items and customized templates in a UserControl and expose the selection data in whatever form you need as a Dependency Property (like an IEnumerable of the data items representing the selected hours).

How can I write my own ContextMenu? C#

I feel quite limited by the default ContextMenuStrip, as it only can contain buttons, and no Controls.
I was wondering that for a long time, and I already tried it, using forms, but it never really worked out.
I already have I idea on how to set the whole thing up, with events and items. The only problem I have is the paint method.
When you open a ContextMenu (ContextMenuStrip) you can set its position on the mouse cursor, and it will be there, even if that means that it goes beyond the active form. (So I can't use the Controls Class as inheritance, as they can only draw themself as a part of a form.
Now I thought to use the Form Class as a base for my ContextMenu, but those where placed on the screen randomly.
So what I actually need is a class (or something similar) that can draw itself, without problems, and can be placed accurately on the screen.
Any hint would be nice, thanks.

Your first statement is false -- you can have a TextBox or a ComboBox in a ContextMenuStrip.

From the designer there is a small drop-down arrow when your mouse is in the "Type Here" box (sometimes hard to click) that will allow you to change the type.
If you are looking to allow for any type of control to be displayed in a top down fashion inside of a container to be positionable... you could always make a custom control using FlowLayoutPanel. With it's properties FlowDirection=TopDown and WrapContents=False to keep a vertical approach. This will handle your "menu" basics and your new control can expose whichever events you wish from each Control. You will have to handle the logic of showing the panel and positioning with it's Location property as well.
I forgot to address the issue with drawing outside of the parent form. Notice that ContextMenus are smart and when they reach a boundary of their parent they draw away from it. You should logically be able to draw in the correct direction (Up/Down or Left/Right) from any right mouse click. Per your attempt with a Form, set StartPosition=Manual then prior to calling Show() or ShowDialog() set it's Location property respective to the X and Y parameters provided in the event args of MouseClick.
